Samsung daughter’s suicide

The NYT is shedding some light on the recent suicide of Samsung president Lee Kun-hee’s daughter Lee Yoon-hyung in New York.  Questions still remain, however, the most perplexing one being, "Why?"

This alleged suicide is very questionable.

    1) My mother’s input: Modern Korean women are no longer this emotional. They are practical, even to the extent of being gold diggers.

    2) My suspicion: She was not a mousy and naive country girl. She has traveled worldwide, drove racing cars, made websites and owned $200 million stocks. Definitely not a type to commit suicide. And, not by hanging with electric cord. Something is fishy.

    3)Playing Perot:
a)Chinese: Chinese companies may have hired assassins and threatened Samsung to give them trade secrets- like how to make advanced cellphones or display systems. Lee Gunhee refused. Daughter dead.

b)Japanese: Samsung is somehow intricately aligned with Japan. Some Japanese technology came easy to Samsung. It seems almost Japanese tech firms are aiding Samsung to make electronic breakthroughs. Could it have a Japanese benefactor who owns these companies? Yakuza? Lee may have done something to anger this boss.

    c) NK: I was just reading about Korean Commie connection as possible culprit. Recently a key witness in KimDaeJung wiretapping scandal committed “suicide” by hanging himself. There may be a connection (by the same guy) between two suicides.

Suicidal depression can be caused by physiological factors. I have a close relative who was diagnosed with bipolar after several months of extremely erratic behavior that included disappearing for several days at a time and serious thoughts of suicide. He is married with children and works for a Fortune 500 company. Fortunately, he is much better now that he is taking medications under the supervision of an excellent doctor. Even though Ms. Lee had everything, perhaps she had a troubled mind that she hid from those around her.

I agree with baduk. Something reeks of myul-chi in this case.

The old man didn’t approve of her possible marriage. Maybe this girl was seen as a loose cannon. Perhaps someone figured she was too unstable to be responsible for so much of Samsung’s wealth.

I say Colonel Mustard in the ballroom with a wrench.

    Conspiracy Theories…

Its sad but people suffer from depressions, and do make the mistake of taking their own life, whatever their education level, whatever their income level.

Just because Korean version of Paris Hilton committs suicide, now they are creating consipiray theory. What are we going to see next?

I think the Bush twins did it. Let’s blame it on America and G.W. Bush. If we arereally good I’m sure Japan can be faulted in this personal tragedy.

Could she been raped or forced to kill herself while threatened to do so? There must have something besides depression because she had fiance, right?

It’s just one scandal after another at Samsung.

    This is just too sad.

Didn’t she use to have a website?

Serious depression to the point of suicide can hit even those who seemingly have it all.

That’s right, S. Some people on this thread don’t realize that not all suicides can be blamed on serious outward problems. I feel for her anguished family.

Hey its well known among the koreans here in Seattle, that NK has sent agents to kill SK in the USA. There are many unsolved SK murders in the area, so this is no suprise.

The New York Times reported Saturday that Lee had been found by her boyfriend, Shin Soo-bin, and his friend at about 3 a.m. on Nov. 19, hanging by an electrical cord attached to the door of her Manhattan apartment.

how do you connect an electrical cord to your door that can kill you (and if true, doesn’t that mean that the door was open), why would she commit suicide if she’s still with her boyfriend, what were her boyfriend and friend doing at 3 a.m. going to her apartment? these questions all need to be answered.

judy, I guess you tie the cord to a part of the door (doorknob, hing, closed door), keep it short, tie it around your neck while standing on something, and jump.

Judy they need to be answered by the police, not by us, and then if the police say its a suicide, we say our condolences and not share consipiracy theories.

I just want people to be a little more sensible when talking about something that really is “none of our business.”

one positive side to this news…
My aunt visiting from Korea was pointing out to me over turkey day that none of the western news were reporting about Samsung daughter’s accident.

Now I know why. They were probably busy fact checking while the Korean media was busy peddling their goods, bought directly from Samsung PR. kudos to where kudos is due.
