I’ve been told, unfortunately, by my provider that I must get a dedicated server to host the Marmot’s Hole. Well, since I still own my Typepad site, and Typepad was nothing but good to me (at least when MIC wasn’t blocking it), I’ve decided to move back, at least for the foreseeable future. Should be fewer headaches, at least as far as server issues are concerned. Anyway, I’ve backed up my old database, and we are currently in the process of transforming the rather significant amount of data produced over the last couple of years into a form that can by imported by MT/Typepad. This will hopefully be done either today or tomorrow.
My apologies, both for the delay in posting and for forcing readers/bloggers to change their bookmarks/links accordingly.

Hi Marmot,
I am glad to find your new location via the referrer.
How much traffic / hits did your page generate so that your old provider decided to get rid of you? Maybe one of the readers can help you with hosting?
Take care
Flo
I was getting roughly 3,500 individual visitors a day. Hardly Instapundit-like numbers, but the site was crashing their server regardless. Doubt it was the traffic that was the problem, though.
I’ve gotten some suggestions for webhosting, which I’ll definitely consider, but I might stick with Typepad for the time being. Change is fun, after all, and returning to Typepad is like reuniting a long-lost friend.
3500? You mean my garbage was read by so many people? I’d better watch what I write. If I don’t, the Uri Commies, Yakusa or American hate group members may knock on my door.
Robert,
I’ve posted your new link on my blog. Good luck with the transition.
Baduk,
Notice any black cars with tinted windows parked across the street from your house lately?
3,500 a day certainly beats my 300 or so, although most of those hits are probably not going to the frong page.
Hey Robert, you may remember me from last year at the inauguration party, I was the guy from the army that hung out with you guys afterwards. . .
If you need ANY help transfering messages from one database to another (especially one online) let me know, thats actually my specialty.
If so you can hit me up via gmail, I’ll be free all this weekend. Just put dots between my name as it apears above.
Another suggestion for webhosting that is a very reasonable alternative is http://www.existhosting.com…I have been very happy with them and they give you a pretty good deal for less than 80usd per year with a free domain registration and more (sound like I work for them don’t I)…anyway…just a suggestion

You can just put some pictures of nude women on your blog and watch the hits go up to 20,000/day.
My host has been pretty good so far. I will help you in any way I can. I’m still interested in starting up an expat magazine for expats in the greater Seoul area….a lot of the people who contribute here would be great contributers for it, too. (Once it ever gets started.)
Glad to see you back. I would recommend Site 5 http://www.site5.com/?affiliateid=392. Only 3500 a day and server is crashing, that’s ridiculous…

Hasn’t worked for me!
A picture I put up last year of Michelle Wie in a sexy red dress is still good for 10-20 hits a day.
Having the Hole at typepad is good and bad for me.
The good: I can post from the same weblog panel as the Flying Yangban and Republicans Abroad-Korea blogs (they are all listed together).
The bad: For some reason I can not post from my home computer on Typepad (but I could at the Marmot’s old Hole). The change means no more evening blogging for me.
Having trouble accessing the new site from China…

Welcome back, Robert. You were missed!
For hosting I suggest, lunarpages.com.
I’ve been using them for years, and they just keep adding features for the same price. And pretty good customer service when there is a problem.
Inspired by the return of The Marmot’s Hole to Typepad, I too decided to go back to my roots: http://asianist.blogspot.com
Okay, not really. I just really hated that B2revolution software. I certainly wasn’t gifted enough to attract The Marmot’s level of traffic and get kicked off.
That’s a good kind of eviction, isn’t it?
Richardson,
I’ve looked at lunarpages and they’re very reasonably priced but with my inherent laziness, it’s just too easy to stay with a known good thing (typepad) instead of learning something new. And the thought of having to manually move all my existing posts, comments and pics over make me hesitate even more. Of course, the longer I wait, the worse it’ll be, right?
There is something I don’t get. I actually like the Blogger software, and think that it does a fine job — for free (I know, I know, there ain’t nothin’ free in this world).
But it seems like using it is some sort of violation of a “professional” blogger taboo. What gives? What’s the big hang-up?
Why are so many so adamant that using free service like Blogger is a no-no?
The thing against blogger is that it’s full of amatuers like me…
Robert, I wonder if marmots change holes as often as you change URLs.
Interested-Participant — Hey, I kept my Wordpress site for quite a while. And it’s not like I chose to move — I was evicted.
As for Blogger, it’s not a bad system, especially the paid service. The only issue I had with it was that it occassionally ate archived posts, but it’s been a while since I used it, so they may have corrected that issue since then. As for being a “no-no” of professional bloggers, well, Andrew Sullivan uses it (paid version, parket at his own domain), so I guess it can’t be that bad.
There is a paid version of Blogger?
Anyway, that was a great run ya had!
“inauguration party”????
wot! wot! Welcome back!
The hyperlink to The Marmot’s Hole on my site has now been updated. It’s good to see you back online again.
