Michelle Wie’s Illegal Ball Dropping Problems

I’m not really into sports, so the first I heard about the ball dropping problems of Korean-American golf prodigy Michelle Wie was this piece on NPR’s On The Media program. If you’re into media navel gazing as much as I am — and I know you are — then you might find this segment rather interesting.

Besides, you get to hear one of the interviewees take great offense at something the interviewer says. It’s no “Quit lying about my record,” but it’s still a hoot, IMHO.

Correct me if I’m wrong but has Wie done anything or won anything (nevermind the men’s competition, what about in the LPGA?) to deserve such accolade and fame other than the fact that:

1) she’s 16, very young for a golfer
2) she’s got potential
and
3) she’s tall and beautiful by American standards (marketable as fashion model)

Seems to me, she’s perfectly set up for a big fall, with all that pressure.

You obviously haven’t seen her drive.

Give the kid a break… Kimbob you’re turning into a doomsayer these days~ What if she takes a big fall? If it doesn’t kill her, it will only make her stronger.
And my can she drive! (putting sucks still)

Wei has a ton of potential and hopefully in the years to come we can see what she can do with it. But I also agree she has proved very little thus far in her very young career-heck she is only 16. Talk about seeing her drive a ball. Can she even drive a car? At this point all she is, is potential. It will be fun seeing her develop that potential.

Once again it appears that with respect to the nature versus nurture debate, cheating seems to be on the side of nature.

Michelle Wie is kind of regular looking, although she is striking in her physical maturity and athletic prowess. Her strongest point is the million-watt smile. That girl either has perfect teeth (I wouldn’t be surprised) or the best orthodontist in the world.

I think the LPGA did a disservice to all by changing the rules to allow her to join the tour. She is a little girl who should finish HIGH SCHOOL and then move on to play on her own tour. What’s up with all the bull$hit of women playing on the men’s tour. With that line of thinking John Daily should be able to play on the split tail tour and clean up.
