Mexico recently welcomed a middle-aged Korean man who was escaping troubles back in the old country.
No, I’m not talking about Roh Moo-hyun.
I’m refering to one Mr Heo, a North Korean whom Mexico recently granted refugee status:
The Immigration Institute of Mexico said Wednesday that a 53-year-old North Korean man, whose family name is Heo, was arrested in February at the northern Mexico border with the United States on charges of possessing a forged South Korean passport. After seven months of questioning, the Mexican immigration authorities accepted his refuge application and released him Wednesday.
Hat tip to One Free Korea.

How do they know he’s not a spy? After all, he was carrying a FORGED passport, trying to cross INTO THE US from Mexico…
Forged South Korean passports are very common and so easy to forge for not only North Koreans, but also for the Chinese.
Mexico City actually has a “little Koreatown”, with approximately 8,000 Koreans in 1995. Within a city of 24 million, they are invisible unless you know where to look.
Time restfully spent in a lavishly furnished Mexican prison no doubt… this is Mexico we are talking about here.
