In order to bring harmony to what ended up being a rather contentious comment thread to my New Orleans-related post, “Thank you, Korea,” one commenter wisely suggested that I post something everyone can agree on — boobies. African boobies, to be specific. OK, says the Marmot — appreciating boobies of all hues, I went to look for pics of Playboy’s first African-American Playmate of the Year. Problem was, while I certainly remembered what she looked like, I couldn’t remember her name (it’s Renee Tenison, BTW — and some of those pics may NOT BE WORK SAFE).
Enter Wikipedia.
Wikipedia has an exhaustive list of the magazine’s Playmates of the Month, including a list of memorable firsts, including the first Asian-American Playmate of the Month, China Lee (Miss August, 1964).
Wanting to learn more about this pioneer, I clicked over and was surprised to learn that the lovely Miss Lee (or at least she was in 1964) is a native of New Orleans, the city that started my websearch in the first place.
Everything is connected.

I remember sneaking a look at her in my dad’s stack of Playboys way back when. A few years ago there was an article in People about Mort Sahl, and there she was in the background of one photo,along with their son,still looking good. I’ve since read that they have divorced.
