Virtual Wonderer,

If the dog has licked the hand of Park, then the dog must die, too.

Singer Park? I've never heard about the singer. I think that it's okay for artistists or entertainers to express their opinion about politics as an individual citizen (no matter how intellectually challenged some of them are).

However, in Park's casee, it went too far. As Baduk pointed out, anti-American sentiment became a tool for gaining popularity. Anti-Americanism became a commercial value.
Fortunately, not many netizens buy it though, if you read netizens' comments here.

Park is not Rage Against the Machine, John Lennon, or Bob Marley. They are in different leagues!

As much as these idiots making all these noise, there are more Korean people going down there to defend that statue. The last time there was a clash at that place, the defenders of the statue far outnumbered the handful of nutcases. Even the usually silent Korean government came down hard and said the statue wasn't going anywhere.

You know, I've given it some thought and if it gets serious enough I'm going down to Freedom Park and defend that damn statue myself.

Hell, maybe I can keep protesters away all by myself simply by warbling a few lines from:

[...]

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

[...]

I still don't understand that the song is about, nor how Richard Harris (!) of all people ended up singing it.

On a much, much more serious note -- if things get serious enough, I'm willing to provide a warm body for any pro-MacArthur protests that the expat community might do. There must be punch and pie provided, though. ;)

Well, he tried to voice anti-American sentiment and hoped to gain popularity. But, he his music fell on deaf ears.

Korean people have changed in last three year. Most Koreans are sick of pro-North sympathizers like Park. Even younger students are turning anti-North and anti-Unification.

I see new political conservatives rising up in Korean soceity. These groups are pro-economy and pro-America. They will be the strong political base for the next president.

I think the lowest point a culture can reach is when politics and music mix. Back in the states, we get stuff like this: George Bush Doesn't Like Black People and in Korea, we get trash like this guy. Instead of writing something to uplift people, these guys want to drag everybody down in a hate-fest -- forget the truth because there is none.

I'm sorry to say it but I hope a truck vendor runs over this sad excuse for a musician (Park Seong-hwan) and his dog.
