Ooo, hot North Korean babes…

Southerns who visited the North to attend South Korean pop star Cho Yong-pil’s recent concert in Pyongyang are apparently talking about a one Ms. Kim Jin-ok, a guide at Mangyongdae memorial, the birthplace of late North Korean leader Kim Il-sung. Even Grand National Party lawmaker Sim “Mac Daddy” Jae-cheol, who was one of the South Koreans to visit Mangyongdae, was apparently charmed, joking to Ms. Kim, “Since the most beautiful North Korean woman and the best looking South Korean man have met, let’s take a photo.” He also asked her to write her name and residence in his address book.

I didn??t know Mr. Shim is still around. (BTW, why did you call him ??Mac Daddy???)

He became a celebrity when he stood as a witness at the special parliament committee for investigating the former government (5??? ??????) in 1988. Actually, it was the same committee that made the current president Roh (who was a novice parliament member) to be a star politician status.

Mr. Shim worked at MBC as a reporter before he got into the politics. He almost died from a car accident a while ago. I didn??t read Korean news for the past few years (when internet wasn??t popular in the states), so I didn??t know what happened to him in the past. Is he a member of Grand National party or ???????? That??s weird.

I remember Mr. Shim??s charismatic speech and good looks back in the late 80s, but based on his recent photos, he looks like average Korean ???????, I mean, creepy one.

    Yeah, she is very hot.

So the horny rants of a politician are now political news?

Personally, I don’t think she’s that attractive, but it looks like Pyongyang knows what floats whose boat. And Martha Stewart would probably agree with me that that is not a good thing.

Maybe this is why a few people in Roh’s government occasionally act like Pyongyang’s proxy: the DPRK intelligence corps has the goods on them. Maybe they’ve got reel after reel of Chung snuggling in a yogwan somewhere with a boy toy (who happens to be a North Korean plant) after a night of soju binge-drinking.

Mr. Chung, you’ve got to know: the phone company has set you free!

Huh? She’s not all that. Kushibo, are you trying to “out” Chung? :) He does seem a little prissy.

June says of Shim: “Is he a member of Grand National party or ???????? That??s weird.”

What was especially weird is how he lied in testimony before the National Assembly the Kim Dae Jung kidnapping case and was sentenced to 5 years for perjury, which he didn’t serve out, before going to be an English teacher at Dongdaemun Girls Middle School in 1985. Given what it took to be and stay a teacher back then, it is generally believed he he was “rewarded” with employment for giving testimony disadventageous to KDJ. He became a journalist for MBC in 1988 and it’s not like just anyone got to do that in those days either. Many believe he was tortured into cooperating with the Fifth Republic dictatorship, and I guess he’s a good example of how people react differently to being tortured since a lot of people would’ve gone the other direction.

Not babes but babies…I hope Mr. Marmot doesn’t mind another link from me, but this editorial in the IHT on declining birthrates in Korea might be interesting to people who visit the Hole:
    http://www.iht.com/articles/20.....owring.php

This part had fangs on it: “Could it be that after centuries of being oppressed, women in these newly industrialized Confucian societies have finally acquired economic independence and are rebelling against tradition? It may not be mere coincidence that Japan and Korea, countries where the subservient role of women has long been most apparent, now have by far the lowest fertility rates, the city-states excluded. In East Asia, educated women in Singapore are showing a marked reluctance to marry. The same applies in Hong Kong, which imports brides from the mainland, and Taiwan, which imports them from Vietnam and elsewhere.” Damn you Confucious, damn you!

Isn’t this whole “declining birthrate” business about maintaining a youthful labor pool? Korea would be rather pleasant with fewer people, I’d say.

Well, it’s tempting to suggest that Shim was simply reiterating the old adage about North Korean ladies and South Korean guys, but the fact is, she doesn’t really rate as a beauty, so that leaves political advantage. Ah, politics can make a man blind…

I wonder how North Korean men feel about South Korean men being better looking?

IMO south korean women are better looking. So I wonder about the other half of the saying.

One thing is for sure. If Korea ever reunites, the “rich” south korean men will be lovin life with their pick of north korean women. There will be some cold and lonely nights for the north korean men.

jtb, things might be different in Texas, but here in New York, being a conservative is a sure way of not procreating for a long loooooong LONG time. At college, all the hot chix were granola vegans. Many of my friends fell victims to vegetarianism as a result…

Are we now debating whether communist or capitalist women are better looking?

If so, how do you explain Ann “ambiguously female” Coulter?

  15. Posted August 27, 2005 at 4:46 am | Permalink

Even non-Korean guys in Korea don??t appreciate natural beauty. Quite sad!

I have to agree that she doesn??t look so good in her photo though. Maybe she is not a photogenic person. When I lived in LA, I used to see not-so-good looking people becoming hot in their photos and cameras (or vice versa). When a personal trainer at my former gym debuted on Average Joe 2 (he was one of the hunks who gave Average Joes a hard time), I didn??t recognize him. I didn??t think that he was good looking in person, but his photos and TV appearance looked amazing.

I??d say that women in Communist countries are better looking than women in Capitalist countries. They tend to be more down-to-earth and have natural beauty (of course, each individual is different case by case).
