I take it Hongik isn’t the only playground of Seoul’s nocturnal wildlife.
The humanity…

I guess I’m not Calvinist. Nice body on the lady.

you are correct. but i dont know other “pure” strip type clubs in noraeban rooms.
anyway, my boy, though he is no calvinist, is too shy to be entertained as implied while other guys (business customers) are present in the same cozy room…

thank you for the info. i never tried that end of iteawon.
Not a story w/o evil foreigners involved.
Long time ago a friend and I were wondering why Itaewon didn’t have strip joints like other cities (Bangkok, Hollywood), but it looks like they’re on the way
This is on the Korean/Japanese side of Itaewon, right?
Certain Korean clubs will supply you with Noraebang-type rooms complete with topless dancers to enterain you, or so I’ve heard……really…never been in one myself, but have heard about them from those who went (Koreans) and from the moview…..
I once asked an acquaintance about this, and he said strip clubs per se were illegal (though obviously many other things are quasi-legal).
Are those ‘ajumma socks’ on that lady? Oh, Mommy…

to my knowledge, it is often called a bukchang-dong (??????style bar where samsung or hyundai business men working around the area use these places for entertain customers. now some of samusung companies moved to kangnam(??????area, so some of these shops are moving.
what they do is girls strip, soak their body with beer and so on.
kushibo
what do you mean by korean/japanese side of itaewon? i never heard of any japanese community or restaurants/bars for japanese in iteawon. (of course many “super copy” souvenir shops are there but these are not particularly only for japanese)
Bukchang-dong style implies that you get oral sex at the end.
The “Japanese” end of Itaewon is roughly east of the Cheil building/Itaewon hotel and is where the tourist restaurants are.
Strictly speaking, I don’t know if you’d call this a “strip club” if it’s the patrons that are invited to doff their clothes, if they’re consenting adults, and if there’s no prostitution involved. I would call it a relatively harmless good time, but more Calvinist oriented people might differ.
To be honest Mae, that part of Itaewon is not all that interesting, there are a few “traditional” Korean restaurants but they’re no different than ones all over town.
That’s what I’m talking about.
I remember in the 1980s, just prior to the Olympics, that a couple of my friends and I went to a club at the bottom of the stairs on Hooker Hill. The club was rather expensive, (compared to other places, but still relatively cheap to GIs on pass) and came with a show and a couple of rounds of drinks. The thing that I remember most was the strip shows. The girls stripped off their tops and they would invite audience participation. They got this one ROK soldier up on the stage and stripped him down to his underwear, and when they had his attention (which was obvious) they reached into his shorts and yanked out some pubes and displayed them to the audience. I still don’t get the point of the show, and the pulling of the pubes makes it that much more confusing - but the soldier evidently liked it because he stayed up there.
At about the same period of time - in Wonju, I remember going to a “Stand-up Bar” and one night it was extremely packed - not with men talking to the girls behind the round counters but with young university girls (I think a few high school girls too). When I asked one of my Korean friends what the deal was he told me to wait and see. It appears that a popular DJ [from a coffee shop - back then they had music coffee shops] also worked part time as a stripper/performer and on this night he performed several mild sexual shows in his underwear with several of the normal bar-girls there. That place was hot with raging female-hormones. Naturally I was one of the exceptions and ended up going home alone - never a happy story.
I meant to add - every guy there got lucky, or so it seems, but naturally I was one of the exceptions and ended up going home alone.
“There??s a club if you liked to go
You could meet somebody who really loves you
So you go, and you stand on your own
And you leave on your own
And you go home, and you cry
And you want to die”
There’s a place near ???? that has these plaques on the wall containing people’s pubes and a picture of the donor. I heard they had a promotion some time ago where you could get a couple free drinks for bringing in your pubes and a photo. Unfortunately I missed the date.
About ten years ago, when I was living in Pusan, there was a club across the street from the entrance to Camp Hialeah that used to have a show. At about 12am or so they cleared the dancefloor, and a girl came out in ????? and danced slowly. The, the DJ changed to dance music, and she began spinning around and around as she disrobed completely. I understand the culture connection (such as it is), but it was just a little strange watching a ????? stripper. Of course, it was still a little strange the next weekend, too.
Hmm lets see, in recent memory there have been postings here on rowdy English teachers (under qualified no doubt) chasing native Korean tail in Hongdae, prostitution crack downs on both side of the pond and now this?? What I want to know is how long it will be before there is a posting on the clubs that have the big cans/best rack or most generously endowed male/yard-sdick contest (for any of you in the business-this might be a your ticket to cash in on what appears to be a growing trend). I can picture it now, there could even be categories. Perhaps a contest might be organized-be the first to discover one of these such establishments.
the itaewon club is interface in the japanese district. although itaewon, they won’t let foreigners in there unless you’re with heavy hitter koreans. at least, that’s the way it used to be. a lot of the girls from itaewon improper head up there to try and make a buck taking it off. evidently, there are some girlies who do this kind of thing regularly on different nights at different clubs. i’m thinking that prolly falls under the “freelancer” job category.
What I find quaint are stories like this one from the NY Times that bears some relation to this thread theme, except in a contrary fashion: Baring it for Byeonsan Bikini Beach . . . maybe not.
Personally, I would not want to see anyone’s pubes on the wall anywhere or drink around them either.
“I remember in the 1980s, just prior to the Olympics, that a couple of my friends and I went to a club…”
Uah… generation gap. You must know what tear gas smells like.
Around the Olympics in the 80s, there were rumors that Korean (college) girls slept around US athletes/ GIs and some illegal and unethical (?) nightlife activities were going on. I was too young to confirm the rumors at the time, but according to someone here, the rumors might be true.
Anyway, I??ve heard about this kind of nocturnal lifestyle back in the late 80 and the early 90s. I am a bit shocked to read this one though, because I haven??t read a real report about it until this one (photos were definitely a plus). What I missed in Korea! All I had in my life in Korea was tear gas. Too painful to smell it..
Generation gap - ouch - “I was too young to confirm the rumors at the time” double ouch. Ok - I am old!
Actually I am surprised at someone’s comment about the biggest cans and racks - it is already here. Just check out the TV. The Korean cable network has lifted another idea from the good ol’ USA (not a great idea) about an “Are You Hot” program in which a group of men and women parade out in front of everyone minus their tops (males) and very small bathing suits - women and strut their stuff. Some of these outfits are small and tight enough that it leaves nothing to the imagination. Trust me - when you are my age - its only my imagination that gets anything.
Tear Gas - only too well. The last time I got hit with a big blast of tear gas was in the 90s at Yonsei’s subway station. The riot police ran into the subway and were firing tear gas. Got so bad that many of us were literally lying on the floor waiting for the subway. The tunnels were filled and when the subway came it opened the door for just a second and we all struggled into it as fast as possible. I am still surprised that no one fell onto the track………
Tear Gas and memories……..those were the days
roberneff:
sorry, I didn’t mean to persecute you because of age. Remember, I am Korean, I am only showing you my respect to a hyungnim. Ahh.. who am i kidding, America corrupted me–these old people jokes are fun! That is until an 18 year old kid pokes fun at me for not being down with new net lingo. I just learned what “Bool-pum” means in Korean by watching a variety show. As a KA, sometimes I can empathize with the newly arrived NK defectors who have no idea what the Korean youths say nowadays.
Talking about tear gases, have you ever had a chance to gain empirical evidence that toothpaste on rags minimizes the effects of tear gases?
