Marmot, you are more Koreanized (?) than I am! I never get Korean love song (cheesy lyrics, repetitious rhythms, tearful singers??)! I??d rather listen to American metal. I have to give a credit to this song though; at least, the singer could sing.
I love Kim Gwang Seok so much, it’s a shame the man had to kill himself… very sad. ?????? ????? ??????? ???????? ?????????????? is a really great song too, dang. When is Bugs gonna recognize the Mac FireFox users in the audience? ???? By the way, are you sure on the name ????????, right? I can’t find anything on Google about him and this song…
blech, turns out it’s ?????? (yang hyeon-gyeong) and it’s still impossible to find…
I’m being a real ass about this… sorry folks. Finally found the song (what? ten minutes later?) and was surprised to find a woman singing the song. it’s nice in its own old-fashioned Korean style, although I must admit I’m a much bigger fan of Kwang Seok (he’s got two versions out there, find the one from The Classic soundtrack). He’s the best male Korean singer… hands down; none of that ??????? feeling to him, very much a Bob Dylan kind of earthy feel.
It sounds like a woman, but if you click the name on the bugsmusic site a man’s picture shows. Yang is Mr.Yang.
I like the title, “The love which hurts too much is not love at all”. The fact is true love hurts. Because the recipient never loves you back as much as you love the person.
You lose. Don’t love anyone; just tease hell out the person. In that way, you don’t get used and dumped.
Am I too cynical? Or, am I just being realistic?
Really love that song. Not Kim Kwang-sok’s best though.
Baduk: ?????? is very much a she — here’s her photo. She also has an online fan club at Daum.

Absolutely no argument from me.

“Care to name your favorite?”
I wasn’t asked, but ????? 60? ?????? ??????? (musicflash or small wma file) and ?????? ????? ????? (small wma file) are two that immediately come to mind.
Those who don’t have Kim Gwang-seok’s music at hand, see this page for links to low-quality wma’s.
The cover on Bugs was too small to really see, but I enjoyed the song. Thanks for the link.
ooo, favorites? I have to admit I’m quite partial to ??????? ????? and ??????? ?????? ???? (both featured in JSA) but I think his best two songs are, ironically, covers of other artists. ????? ????? ????? ??? (so fun) and ???????? (really great anti-war anthem).
When I hear his music I wish it were easier for me not to think of the fact that when he killed himself he did so with his wife and daughter in the very next room. I listen to/read others who have habits that disgust me but with him somehow it gets to me more.
Personally I like ??????????. Anyway, this has reminded me that I must rip my Kim Kwang-sok albums.
Kim Kwang Seok does get under one’s skin; it is haunting.
His music is not covered too often by other singers becuase there are apparently copyright disputes over his most popular work. He sang much work from other writers like Han Dol for one.
Kim Kwang Seok, that’s quite a taste. I have some of his retro tapes, and my favorite’s ??????? ?????.
Is there any Song Chang Seek fans here? His way of lifestyle is inspiring, and I find his tape immeasurably valuable.
Hands down, ???????. I just discovered her recently, not through her 70s hit, ??? ?????? (after which the recent movie is named), but her ???? ???? ?????. Very, very haunting, ethereal voice.
??????, too. Not only an excellent singer, but good dance moves as well.
Sorry, I just realized this page is a ????? love-fest. Excuse my interloping.

I had always known this as a popular Russian standard and was very surprised to hear it sung in Korean. I wonder which came first…Dr. Lankov, do you know?
The Russian came first. In the song credits I saw (on TV), it said she wrote the arrangement/lyrics, based on a Russian folk tune.
“Based on a Russian folk tune”?
Now that’s a cleaver if old way to avoid paying royalties.
The composer of the song is Latvian Raimonds Pauls (Raymond Pauls), born in 1936 in Riga, Latvia. I guess the song can be counted as somehow Russian even though Latvians and Mr Pauls would perhaps disagree, since it was sung in Russian and made popular in Soviet Union by Alla Pugacheva.
Thank you, Antti, I had not known that. Seems like the Lettische perennially miss out on the recognition they deserve.
