OOB: Human Rights In The DPRK

While the Korean expat blogsophere is still abuzz with comments on the recent protests against the proposed relocation of the Yongsan base to Pyongtaek, there are several other stories that are drifting about.

One of them is an upcoming Freedom House conference scheduled for July 19 in D.C. that will focus on the North Korean human rights crisis. Both The Flying Yangban and the North Korea Zone mention it.

The always interesting One Free Korea has a roundup of how the DPRK’s human rights problems are changing the geopolitical equation for Washington.

GI Korea Blog has an interesting series about Task Force Smith that held the ground in Korea when the DPRK swooped into the South in 1950.

Migukin has a roundup of the most recent issue of Wayguk Magazine.

Our quote of the week comes from One Free Korea:

North Korea recognizes that talk about human rights is a mortal threat to the survival of its system; such talk has likely been responsible for its new flexibility on nuclear talks

I must be old…I remember when there was no “Korean expat blogosphere”, much less one that was abuzz.
