Introduced in May at a fashion show in Seoul, the Samsung SPH-V6900 (MRRP is about $600US), features one unique quality that gets me interested: it has a bluetooth wireless headset.
Broadcom’s Bluetooth capabilities enable users to seamlessly switch back and forth from listening to music to speaking on the phone, Bibaud noted. Along with AV functionality, the SPH-V6900 also supports the CTP (cordless telephony) profile, which allows the phone to connect to home gateway devices and be used as a cordless phone within a home or business. In addition, the phone’s Bluetooth implementation supports profiles for imaging, printing, and file-transfer applications.

Based on the Samsung D500, the SPH-V6900 features 90Mb of memory, a 1.9″ QVGA screen, 1.3MP camera and uses 3G (CDMA). It is currently selling for about $321US on Naver.
The key thing for me is if this an indication that we are about to witness the transformation of the cellphone into a mobile headset device that you sometimes see envisioned in scifi movies. That would be the next logical step. Such a move would make it a lot more difficult to watch TV or check your bank account using your phone, but it’s something to think about.
For those of you who can read Korean, the phone’s instruction manual may be found here.

I see the Marmot’s Hole is now doing “infotainment-esque” endorsements.
Sweet. Tell me which Ramyeon to buy!

Interested that Marmot’s Hole is now turning into a cellphone news site, would hope not to see too much specialization, the attration of this site is the *range* of interesting material about Korea. If it’s only about cellphones, how about setting up a separate blog?
Re: Bluetooth headsets, as these are already common in Britain, I am surprised to see this may be a case of Europe being ahead of Asia in the tech field for a change…
Will
Is wrestler Gail Kim pictured “topless” on the phone yet?
Those Lt. Uhura earpieces are becoming widespread in the USA. Every poser who wants to seem more busy/important than the average joe has one. Which would be fine, if the conversations were more critical than, “Nothing. What are you doing?”
sheldon,
the key to making this type of post successful (and not offending the delicate sensibilities of all the good folks who read the blog) is to put this type of information in a different context. change the perspective (or angle) of the post. if it’s just an infomercial then the post will offend. the photo of the smiling samsung people enjoying their blue teeth is especially out of place here, as was your post last week with the white hand and the nokia)
you made a good comment on bluetooth but didn’t dig into the issue. readers subsequently pointed out that korea is actually behind on this tech. could be a good story.
ooops… just realized you spell your name with a “t”. sorry about that.
I got my 6900 the first day that hit the streets here in Korea. Best cell phone purchase I have ever made! It now costs half of what I paid, and I still don’t regret it. I got it specifically because it had the bluetooth function. The 6900 combined with my Jabra BT250 headset (used by the good guys in the TV series “Alias”), is a marvel.
I can keep my cell phone on my desk and walk around the office. I’ve got two hands to type with and no wires to get tangled in. I can use it with my full-faced motorcycle helmet.
It is quite a beautiful piece of equipment. I would recommend it to anyone.
Bluetooth, or any cellphone headsets, are just for wankers that want to look busy. Especially if used for walking down the street and talking.
I’ll give someone the benefit of the doubt if they are working and typing something related to the call. But if you are just yaking to a friend, then it is a prententious waste of time.
definitely for wankers. should come free with every phone sex purchase.
I use my cellphone headsets specifically for listening to mp3 through my phone. It’s seriously convenient, and you can receive a call anytime. For people who just wear the headsets, without mp3 or any other reason.. unless they’re not using getting calls every 5 minutes.. probably you can call them wankers.
