Kimbob, I’m quite sure that this was a typo. Pavel Litvinov is a Russian who spent some time as a prisoner in a Soviet Gulag, and I can’t imagine that he would really mean “South” Korea.

Anyway, I contacted the Washington Post to inform them of the error . . . but have as yet received no reply.

Koreans need an external force to really make them reflect on what are being propagandized. It's sad that many Koreans are unable to recognize what is wrong with this picture on their own. I would have loved to see this story plastered all over CNN, NY Times, LA Times, and BBC. But unfortunately, interest in Korea related subjects are not so high.
