Kim Jong-il — is this man for real?

Some interesting stuff coming out of today’s meeting between Unification Minister Chung Dong-young and North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. I have absolutely no idea what to make of some of these comments out of the meeting, so I’ll just give you the highlights:

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il on Friday expressed his willingness to rejoin the six-way nuclear talks in July if the United States “recognizes and respects” the communist country, saying his country has no reason to possess nuclear weapons.

Kim also said North Korea will receive inspections from the U.N. nuclear watchdog, IAEA, and rejoin a nuclear nonproliferation treaty if the 32-month nuclear standoff is resolved, according to Unification Minister Chung Dong-young, who returned home after a trip to Pyongyang.

Right…

And this from the Korea Times:

Kim was quoted as describing Bush as a “good person to talk with” when asked by Chung to answer how he thought of the U.S. president, who recently called him “Mr. Kim Jong-il.”

“Should I attach ‘His Excellency’ to his name?” he said. “His Excellency President Bush! Well, I don???t have any reason to hate him. I was told by Russian President Vladimir Putin that he is a good person to talk with and a person whom I will find it very interesting to talk with.”

Is KJI angling to get an invite to the Ranch?

Back to the Yonhap report:

“Kim further said he has thought well of the U.S. since the (President Bill) Clinton administration and that he has a friendly feeling toward America.”

Uh, OK.

Th North’s leader reaffirmed his country’s commitment to honoring a 1992 accord calling for a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, and said that his country has neither given up nor rejected the nuclear talks, according to Chung.

Eh?

Anyway, like I said, I have no clue what to make of all this other than KJI was apparently in a good and talkative mood. Perhaps a resolution to the nuke issue is near. Perhaps Kim is hitting a little too much of the sauce. Fascinating statements, though.

Maybe KJI had his drink spiked with something that’s finally pushed beyond crazy’s Point of No Return. Because it seems like his ‘friends’ may want him gone, and that’s easier to do if he really is clinically crazy. Kinda like the French Monarch who was overthrown after being intentionally given syphillis via the Duchess.

KJI doesn’t know what his next move is. He will get a phone call from the real power(China) tonight and he will follow the order.

Till then, he is just talking garbage.

Stupid us! All this hand-wringing over what to do with NK when it appears that all that was necessary was to refer to KJI as “Mister”.

The Kimster really knows how to play the 3D chess with his various “partners.” Chung must have been wetting his pants to hear all of Kim’s empty promises, and couldn’t wait to get back to Seoul with his “trophies.” But really he was just summoned at the last minute by Kim, like the lackey he is, and S.K. will now pay and pay for privilege.

It was interesting that Mister Kim wasn’t apparently, anywhere to be seen during the celebrations up north. Perhaps he was worried that one of the stealth aircraft was circling looking for him ?????? to perhaps leave a celebration gift ?

Maybe Mister Kim is hoping Bush will invite him to the Oval Office to discuss the “Aquariums of Pyongyang”. Perhaps Vladimir Putin convinced him that Bush might have a sympathetic ear.

Meanwhile, the NY Times ran an article on the author of “The Aquariums of Pyongyang: Ten Years in the North Korean Gulag.”
A Voice From North Korea Echoes in the White House

I shook my head just a little when I read “. . . Printed in five languages since 2000, including English, the book was well received just about everywhere but in South Korea, where it languished in obscurity; its harsh critique of the North out of step with South Korea’s official policy of engagement.”

It sounds like one of those vague things that sounds good, ends up getting repeated a lot, but no one has really verified.
