The Argus and Coming Anarchy suck

Why do the Argus and Coming Anarchy suck? Because just as I was starting to like my blog design, they go and totally redesign their blogs and put me to shame. Nathan uses the Connections theme from Vanilla Mist to great effect, and I’m not even going to attempt to figure out how the gentlemen over at Coming Anarchy came up with their design.

NOTE: Aware of the dangers of sarcasm in cyberspace, let me just clarify that I do not think The Argus or Coming Anarchy suck. In fact, I’m a big fan of both their blogs.

    Mr Marmot,

Your template is quite cool in its own right. You have no need for any display of envy :-)

Dont’ feel too bad. I think your design is great, though yes, those other sites do get a good classic feel to them.

You know it was all your fault though, right? Every time you redesign, I redesign. Why that is, I don’t quite know, but that’s just the way it is. Oddly enough, this is the first time I haven’t ended up using a modified version of whatever theme it is you happen to be using.

I forgot to mention that Younghusband is apparently a frickin’ genius when it comes to these things.

    1.) this site rocks
    2.) this site’s design rocks
3.) actually, you were an inspiration for the redesign…
4.) As it happens, fellow poster Sir Francis is a professional web designer, and I bet for a small fee…

    Very best,

Your site looks just fine. Besides, you’re using a theme switcher…you can always add another theme.

Blog design envy is either motivation to make your own site better, or some kind of call to the dark side, because it never, ever ends.

I loved the “Dante” test from the Anarchy pages. It seems that I made it into purgatory. Yea!

Look man, I’m still using one of them MovableStyle.com designs, albeit with another sidebar and different graphics. This site is already way beyond anything I would bother to attempt, so don’t be complaining. ;)

Site design is one thing…content is another… You may not have the best design, but it’s the content that keeps people coming back.

I’m with John_t on this one. I like my site design (feel free to disagree) but then again, I write like a hundred monkeys at a typewriter. Your site always has interesting content and it looks pretty good to me.

No reflected glory this time! Robin Burk of Random Probabilities and Winds of Change featured Laurence’s post on Putin’s address alongside this one on the same subject from Joel Gaines of No Pundit Intended.

I like this design much better than the old, but as my compatriot suggested it is the content that keeps me coming back every day. Although loading in Safari is pretty buggy for some reason…

As for CA 2.0, I wanted to combine an archaic style with a high amount of relative information, thus I went for the three column layout: important writings on the scroll, other info in the margins. It was fun to come up with and I am satisfied with it for now.

I intended it to be easy to read, so I am interested in why friedman thinks it is not.
