From angryasiaman.com:

This is probably the closest thing to an apology you're going to get from Rex Reed about his Oldboy review:

On Oldboy

Finally, a word about Korea. A few weeks ago, in my broadside against the gory Korean movie schlockfest Oldboy, I apparently raised the hackles of several readers who objected to the way I mentioned the Korean film industry and the fermented Korean national dish called kimchi in the same sentence. I'm not an admirer of political correctness in first-person byline opinion writing, but that doesn't make me a racist, so if I inadvertently offended anyone who misinterpreted my humor, I apologize. I like Koreans. In truth, I have probably spent more time in Korea than any of the irate letter-writers currently bombarding me. I even lived there for several months while making a movie called Inchon! with Laurence Olivier, Jacqueline Bisset, Ben Gazzara, Richard Roundtree and Toshiro Mifune. We had many happy times, admired the lush landscape and liked the friendly people. We all hated the kimchi.

Ridiculous. What a pathetic excuse to name-drop. You'll find it at the bottom of the page here.

I guess I might have gotten a bit carried away. For that I apologize to Paul. Sorry for making distasteful remarks about you. Congratulations on your new baby and best wishes for your family.
I'm done with it and just happy that the New York Observer acknowledge their writer??s insensitiveness and poor choices of words.

Did you have a bad experience with Korean Americans while you were in the states, so you had to get a mail order bride of some sort. I know what the real reason is, all through school Korean Americans did better in school then you, and took your job away. Hey maybe I got your job right now, but I doubt it since I too qualified to be flipping burgers or picking up garbage

come on, now. you're being kind of an ass.

if you disagree with him, disagree with him, but your name-calling (snipped) and this kind of stuff is going to get the marmot up your ass. or richard gere's ass.

now look what you made me do: i said 'ass' twice.

" is this some form of dyslexia that only korean-americans suffer from? "

So Norin Nae or Paul really showed his real self by calling Korean Americans dyslexic. It??s nice that the beast has revealed his true nature. I knew deep down that you had some kind of contempt for Koreans, even though you say you are married to a Korean and live in Korea. Did you have a bad experience with Korean Americans while you were in the states, so you had to get a mail order bride of some sort. I know what the real reason is, all through school Korean Americans did better in school then you, and took your job away. Hey maybe I got your job right now, but I doubt it since I too qualified to be flipping burgers or picking up garbage.
Because you know what? Am dyslexic since I, mad you shouldn??t get.

I referenced swastika and burning crosses to exaggerate to make a point, but I assume you didn??t get it. But of course you ignored the part when I speak about ??Motorcycle Diaries?? and ??Barber Shop??.

I guess you didn??t appreciate my email much, and I tried to be polite about it. If you didn??t appreciate the names I called you, maybe moron, idiot, fudge packer, pecker, nitwit, pinhead, retard, stupid, dumb bastard, dimwit, bonehead, pea brain, tool. I especially like ??tool?? since you seem like one. Hey, I am am so flexing my muscles now, can't you see it?

But I always knew you were a bigot or racist in some manner to agree with Rex Reed??s comments. It??s people like you who keep the same sort of throwback mentality of the olden days back then when they thought racist and discriminating comments were ok, the norm of society. Hicks like you ??Paul Bunyun?? keep racism around even though subtle as it may seem. By allowing tolerance of such behavior and by you rationalizing such behavior just shows how it is still exist to some degree.

But anyways here??s some good news, even though Paul might be disappointed:
New York Observer took down Rex Reed??s review and even might release an apology for it. I guess his review was offensive that they had to take it down. Hmmm, wonder why they had to?

And Paul, do you really want me to email you again and set up a meeting? I mean come on, do you expect me to buy a ticket and fly to Korea so we can talk about this? If so just tell me your telephone number instead and home address. Just for you I will fly to Korea and meet you, so meet me in June when I get there at the Seoul airport at gate FU.
