Nora Sumi Park, who has been leaving quite a few terrific comments around this blog as of late, now has her own blog going. Looks like a valuable addition to anyone’s blog list.

I always wonder how gay or lesbian and republican thing could go together (i.e. Andrew Sullivan?). Not just to see how this combination will work out but also to figure out what Nora knows about nada, it is worthwhile to check it out.

thank you for the plug (plug meaning free publicity). a work-related change of pace has suddenly afforded me the opportunity to do this, and i hope i can keep it up, at least at my own blog. i have to say: damn! this is hard to keep doing.

as for being gay/lesbian and republican, it’s not that weird. go to http://www.lcr.org (lcr being log cabin republicans) and see how much of the platform you support. then imagine you’re a lesbian and see how much of it you agree with.

as a republican i believe in low taxes, limited government interference, and strong national security.

if you think about it, gays/lesbians would be very much in support of limited government interference, since it’s usually government restrictions that prevent gays/lesbians from having the same right to be who we want just like straight folks.

you might think that the democratrs on the left are the ones who are getting all the gay rights things done, but we’re at the point where gays/lesbians need to focus on getting support from the right, too, if any more real progress is to be made.

for the record, i am a moderate republican, which means there’s a lot of neocon nonsense i am against, including their opposition to same-sex marriage (i’m stuck in korea until my korean-national s.o. and i can find a way for us to both go to the states together). i also have concluded that the iraq war was a major mistake.

and for the record, log cabin republicans decided to NOT endorse president bush for re-election. the man is a tool.

NOra seems like babbling fool. Conservative, moderate, or liberal Republican? The only thing that these labels indicate is your lack of understanding of the issues.

So, you “believe in low taxes, limited government interference, and strong national security?” Are these mutually inclusive in your thinking? What a naiver girl.

I’d just like to bring up the (seeming) misunderstanding Ms. Park has with the term ‘neocon’. The term itself is kind of nebulous, and there is a lot of room for disagreement over it’s exact meaning but I’ll just quote a portion of the Wikipedia entry on Neoconservatism in the United States:

“..domestic policy does not define neoconservatism; it is a movement founded on, and perpetuated by an aggressive approach to foreign policy, free trade, opposition to communism during the Cold War”

I understand that she’s just using the term perjoratively to refer to the modern party defined and led by Bush, but maybe it would be more accurate to refer to her ideological enemies as Paleo-conservatives, like
Pat Buchanan, who’s opposition to aggressive foreign policy AND support for a conservative domestic agenda fit her pigeon hole much better.

    Nora,

Are you sure you are lez? Try some Korean men. Some of them are pretty effeminate, especially before going to military service. They are almost school girl with male genitals.

Try them. Maybe you are turn off by European style manhood. Korean males have tender, emotional and vulnerable side somewhat like European females.

Males are quickly changing these days to adopt and survive. You may find some who are “socially evolved” enough to possess the same qualities you look for in a woman.

I am not knocking your sexual orientation. I am just suggesting “alternate lifestyle” back to socially accepted form.

Forgive me if I have offended you in any way.

  13. Posted April 5, 2005 at 7:55 am | Permalink

don’t worry about offending me, baduk,
you didn’t invent the concept of ‘you just haven’t found the right man, yet.’ my mother did that.

most lesbians (yeah, the word ‘lez’ is still one of those words that’s a bit offensive, unless the person using it is one herself, using it with a sense of irony) have ‘tried’ other men. when the first they tried didn’t work, they seek another type, until they realize what they really want and need is another woman.

i know what you’re saying about men adapting, but it’s like this analogy: no matter how you market a vacuum cleaner, it still isn’t a hairdryer. effeminate men is not what does it for me. it’s hard to explain….

would you want an effeminate man going down on you? if not, then why would i?

by the way, my sexual orientation is probably the least important of my defining characteristics these days. i almost regret including that in my blog’s intro, but to some degree it does inform my view of the world, so i thought it important to be upfront.
