I’d buy an Xbox for this

If South Korea banned Ghost Recon 2, I’ll assume there is absolutely no way in hell LucasArt’s Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction is making it here for the Xbox or PS2. Which is really too bad, because the game looks incredibly dope:

When LucasArts’ “Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction” first showed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo last year, it was revolutionary. Taking the “Grand Theft Auto” formula out of the city and into a war-torn version of North Korea, it let players freely drive Humvees, tanks and attack helicopters across an hilly, expansive warzone dotted with small, destructible cities and towns.

Then “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” came out, and suddenly the wide-open landscape thing wasn’t as impressive anymore.

Even so, “Mercenaries” still holds an edge over its big-name competitor. Where the “GTA” games are urban crime dramas, “Mercenaries” takes a Tom Clancy-ish route and drops players into the Korean DMZ as a soldier of fortune. The North is in chaos following a coup by a rogue general, and the Chinese, South Koreans, “Allied Nations” and Russian mafia are all looking to wrest control from the remnants of the North Korean army.

As one of three contractors - tough-as-nails Chris Jacobs, stealthy Jennifer Mui or speedy Mattias Nilsson - players will pull jobs for each of the factions, using whatever resources are at hand. Finishing these will get you closer to your real goal, which is to track down a deck of 52 war criminals before their leader sets off a nuclear disaster.

But there’s no hurry. Players can roam around and explore at their leisure, impeded only by bands of North Korean troops who inexplicably don’t like mercenaries nosing around in their country.

Make sure to check out all the features over at IGN. And don’t forget the screenshots.

Mercenaries

Yeah, it’s all fun and games until someone accidentally ignites the reprocessing facility…

So you just have it shipped from Amazon or something. Be the first guy on your (apartment) block to have one. :)

They’ll only ship it inside the US on Amazon. However, I am always happy to defy the wishes of the censor and help a brother out.

I’m gonna have to dust off my PS2 for this one.

Whoever did the Korean for that game is not familiar with North Korean spellings. Setting aside for the moment the question of whether that facility would be labeled so prominently (unlikely, I’d imagine), it should say ???”, not ????” ^-^

Aaron, pretty good eyes you got there. heh heh.
But wouldn’t it be RyungByun? I could never figure out the North Korean spelling rules.

Most cases like this do involve an initial ?? but in this case it’s ??. The characters for ????” are ????? (the initial ?? also appears in the word ?????). Another example involving ?? is ????/?????? (??????).

just want to say the game if based in the DMZ is over doing it..
