Guess it’s gonna be a cold winter in Kaesong after all

A reader has informed me that North Korea has asked the South to delay a planned shipments of coal for the residents of Kaesong to the end of this year, citing “insufficient internal transport planning” (see original post on Kaesong coal aid here). They also asked that follow-up discussions on communications from Kaesong be put off, and invitations were not sent to Southern participants for a hospital opening ceremony in the city. Nobody knows the reason behind the sudden change in attitude, although the North had been complaining about the slow progress being made on the Kaesong Industrial Complex project.

Fear not, however — work proceeds on building powerlines to connect the Kaesong complex to the south, and production within the complex continues as normal.

Ah, you’re not seeing the forest through the trees again. “Insufficient internal transport planning” is newspeak for “All of our trucks and railcars are being used for the mobilization for attacking south as soon as the rivers freeze thick enough to drive across.” Also, when they want the charcoal and heaters, they’ll be able to pick them up themselves when they are on this side of the border. Communicaion discussions have been put off because their communications node centers are currently targeted and need to be moved to alternate locations prior to the attack, or else they won’t be able to control their Scud volley fires effectively. Finally, there were no invitations for the hospital ceremony because they don’t want anyone to see that the hospital is filled with WMD.

What do you think? Good excuse for war? Maybe I should change over to intelligence to replace some of those clowns that have recently been fired over Iraq.
