Yes, we Koreans don’t appear to be too discerning about our celebrities. With a few exceptions like Ha Ji Won, I am hard pressed to identify an attractive female Korean celebrity.
It seems that for us, any artificial beauty with plastic surery and oversized neon-white oversize tooth caps will do - even Ha Ri Su! Have you seen the choppers on Kim Tae-hee (Love Story in Harvard)? Kim Hee Sun, Choi Ji Woo, Lee Hyori? You can find better looking women in most room salons.
At least Gail Kim’s face looks natural (I’m not so sure about her breasts - breast implants on Korean women tend to look like tennis balls)
I suppose the difference in taste between Westerners and Koreans is that the Westerners seem to accept us as we are without all the plastic surgery we Koreans consider such an indispensible part of our ritual of racial self-loathing.
Along with double fold eyelids, chin implants, jaw shaves, nose implants, breast implants for men, face whitening cream…what does all this tell you about our self image as Asians?
And lest you are tempted to blame “the white man” for this, you can see from Gail Kim that they are a lot more appreciative of the Asian face than we ourselves.

FYI, in 2003, Gail suffered a broken collar bone and ruptured one of her implants in a match. So those books are might fine, but not natural.
