BREAKING NEWS: Two Koreans kidnapped in Iraq?

kidnapped? The Foreign Ministry said Sunday night that an Iraqi group calling itself “al-Jihad” claimed on an Arabic language website (www.alezah.com) that it had kidnapped two Koreans in Iraq and threatened “Allah’s judgment” upon them if Seoul did not withdraw its troops from Iraq in 72 hours. It also said it would soon provide photos of the hostages.

The problem is, the post was made at 4:00 p.m. on the 25th day of the 11th month of 1425 according to the Islamic calender. In other words, Jan. 6. Despite the fact that more than 72 hours has elapsed, no signs of the photos have been discovered, nor has al-Jazeera or any of the other local media reported any kidnappings.

The Korean Embassy in Baghdad and its office in Arbil say everyone is accounted for, although they are trying to confirm whether any Koreans entered Iraq without permission. This is always a possibility, as some of you might recall.

Lest anyone forget, bounties were placed on the heads of Koreans in Iraq in October.
