F*cking USA’s ode to Pyongyang

Songwriter Yun Min-seok, the one who brought us that unforgetable crowd pleaser “Fucking USA,” has apparently caused something of a controversy with his last song, which openly praises North Korea. The words of this little number go:

When you feel that life is difficult, go to Pyongyang.
There are people who smile, even though things are difficult.

When you miss human affection, go to Pyongyang.
There are (oh boy, tough word to translate properly) human feelings (Korean: injeong) that you can’t buy or sell for money.

Go to Pyongyang. Definitely go to Pyongyang, where people live. With the feeling of going home…

Fucking USA? Fucking idiot. “Useful idiot,” anyway.

Oh, and while injeong is apparently not for sale in Pyongyang, a whole lot of other stuff apparently is in other parts of the country, as long as you don’t get caught. Oh, BTW, if anyone can find the actual video footage discussed over at NKzone, please post it on Rebecca’s blog.

And are we surprised at this? Of course there are lots of stool pidgeons for Pyongyang in South Korea, or even outright communist revolutionaries taking instructions from the North. Surprise surprise. I wouldn’t be so alarmed about this, if it wasn’t for the fact that the main S.Korean society doesn’t reject these nutcases (well at least in this case, the author of the F*U* song is being wacked in the butt for this, but overall it’s a very discouraging amount of acceptance of North Korean ideology in the South).

I didn’t go through all the comments at the Joongang, but I did notice a couple of netizens making that very same suggestion.

Wow, someone is on a certain dictator’s payroll, or so it would seem. Then again the Beatles wrote “Back in the USSR. You don’t know how lucky you are,” etc.

I think the perfect melody in praise of Kim Jong-il would be “Downtown” by Petula Clark. “When you’re mislead and have nowhere to turn you can always go — to Pyongyang,” etc. Or how about that melody from “Everyone Knows Wendy.” It could be reworked as “Everyone Knows Dear Leader” or something heartwarming like that.

I really hope that S.Koreans to migrate to N.K instead of Western countries.

“Then again the Beatles wrote ??橫Back in the USSR. You don??t know how lucky you are,?? etc.”

That was a joke, Observer. No one has ever thought the Beatles were serious about that (particularly as it was a McCartney song). In fact, it was a take-off on “Back in the USA”. The Beatles’ White Album was full of Beatles’ imitations of other musicians. Chuck Berry had a hit with Back in the USA, mentioning place names in the lyrics, which is what the Beatles song does. Also, the Beach Boys lifted the Berry song’s melody and rhythm for Surfin USA, and the Beatles incorporated some Beach Boy vocal licks in Back in the USSR, reflecting both Berry and the BBs at the same time.

More evidence that the anti-US hysteria of late 2002 (and the resulting election of Noh) was largely a Nork production.
