Seems I’ve drawn the attention of — get this — a spam ping/trackbacker. Reading through the Wordpress forums, there does not appear to be a solution to this problem as of yet, although some are apparently working on one. Anyway, if you run a Wordpress blog, it’s an issue that might be of interest to you. For now, the only thing you can do is disable trackback/pings. Relevant WP forum threads are:

I drew the ire of one of these things some months ago, resulting in upwards of 20-30 jibberish comment postings per day. I wish I could find the creator.
I’ve had the same. They change their IPs as well, which makes them damn tricky.
Track the IPs and report them to the ISP. Sooner or later, you can nab them, providing your ISP is *not* Kornet.
