Assassination plot against Kim Jong-nam?

Kim Jong NamYonhap reported Sunday that North Korean leader Kim Jong-il’s eldest son Kim Jong-nam, whom you may recall from the whole Tokyo Disneyland fiasco, was the target of an assassination plot during a trip to Austria last month. The plot, which “a source familiar with North Korean affairs” said was hatched by forces in Pyongyang close to Kim’s other two sons, was foiled by Austrian intelligence, which apparently didn’t want to see a North Korean gangland hit go down on its territory. Only thing is, Austria’s Interior Ministry denied today that there was any such plot, and claimed that Kim’s two-day visit to Vienna passed without incident.

Was there a plot against the Kim Jong-nam? Who the hell knows. Maybe the boys from the Yomiuri should shoot him an email and find out.

Hey that rhymed! Sort of. I’ve got one:

We wait for someone to kill
That evil sack Kim Jong Il
    His poor son Jong Nam
    ‘Scaped death on the lam
But don’t think old Jong Il will!

Ok that sucked. But can you do any better?

That would be one family line whose termination would be welcomed by all of mankind.

I wouldn’t put an assassination attempt past that mob, but the target is kind of puzzling. Do they really consider that guy a threat? When they caught him in Japan, he came off as fairly harmless. He was on his way to Disneyland, as the article points out. What it doesn’t point out is that he said he didn’t see what the big deal was, because *he had been there before*

If Kim Jong Il goes, hereditary dynasty notwithstanding, I can’t see this guy getting the top spot. Unless the rumors that the KJI is just a figurehead used by the real powers are true.

This clown had a cheesy handwritten Dominican Republic passport when picked up at Narita. I’m with BS on this one - the guy’s a nonentity. Of course, Kim Jong Il doesn’t exactly look like Genghis Khan either…

Speaking of KJI - I’ll be heading to Yongsan to see “Team America” this evening. Hopefully it won’t fill up by the time I get there.

Hard to feel optimistic about this news. Who’s to say Jong Chul is better than Jong Nam? It’s like finding out Japanese emperor assassinated Korean royalty. Don’t know whether I should cheer or jeer.

I remember KJI saying how much better SK historical dramas were then in NK. He probably said this right after waching “Yong eh Nummool”(Dragon’s Tear) All that story about how the prince killed off all his siblings for a “greater cause” probably resonated with KJI.
