Which may be a reason I feel driven to comment on both the problem and the reception of comments on it. Another thing: while Koreans I've spoken about say things are actually getting worse, that society is "going crazy", I remember people saying that in Canada in the 80s when I was a kid, too. The saying that the world is going to the dogs is a Latin one, from ancient Rome. In fact, things seemed to be getting worse in Canada, because things like rape and child abuse were going unreported somewhat less often than before; but the increased reportage actually reflected improvements. As some have noted above, while the event was horrible, the reportage of it may be a positive sign.
