Adamu was kind enough to present the following public service announcement:
Japan’s high school students are the worst in the worst at protecting their naughty bits. It was found in a large-scale survey by Asahikawa Medical School Asst. Professor Imai Hirohisa that more than 10% of high school students who have had sexual experience are infected with genital chlamydia but are not aware of it. Genital chlamydia is a type of sexually transmitted disease (STD) that is closely linked to female infertility and AIDS. This is a dangerous situation in which parents of children that age cannot simply say it’s “not my child.”
But let’s break down the numbers some more:
This survey consulted 3200 boys and girls in 1st to 3rd year of high school (ed: Japanese high schools only have 3 grades). Of the 35.8% of boys and 47.3% of girls who had had sexual experience, the infection rate for chlamydia excluding those undergoing treatment was 7.3% for boys and 11.4% for girls.
When limited to 16-year-old girls, the rate was 23.5% or almost 1 in 4.
That’s not all:
The article goes on to say that “the homelier the person, the more at risk they are,” meaning that people who have sex all the time tend to be more careful than people who aren’t all that concerned with it.

One of the first slang sentences I learned in Japanese was “Damn! Not a single virgin in this high-school!”.
Well, figures, eh?
Hey thanks for the link. I’m telling you, the innocent facade is just that. Hell, even Japanese porn stars look young and innocent.

One must wonder what brought on that valuable bit of teaching. I am still laughing thinking about it.
Why do Japanese people have no sexaul morals? Is the situation close to “hitting bottom” and then improving?
Well I don’t know about *no* morals, but people like Ishihara Shintaro have noticed a declining trend in chastity as well, calling for a ban on sex by junior high school students. I blame it on a combination of complete parental neglect when it comes to anything sexual and a lack of effective education on birth control. People aren’t sufficiently scared of STDs and AIDS yet.
Skanky Japanese Girls Have Highest STD Rate
The ugliest girls are most infected with sexually transmitted genital chlamydia. Annotate your tour guidebook accordingly.
I’m sure you are right about the lack of education on sex and insufficient fear of STD’s and AIDS. However, do people really need the spectre of AIDS to strike fear into theirs hearts and make them less promiscuous? I mean, isnt there a sense of morality somewhere in the deep recesses of the Japanese mind that can influence them before it gets to that bad point where people are getting AIDS? Thats incredibly sad if its true because AIDS is a terrible thing to live with or die from. I hope that sincerely hope that scenario is not the resolution of Japan’s problem.
What makes any of you think the Japanese attitude toward sex is any different from what it always has been?
The only difference is that people are starting earlier than they used to (regardless of what Antti’s friend says).
Parental control is one thing, but are you going to censor all the TV shows, movies, and comic books they see, too?
And why is this worse than the ratio of children in the US born to unwed mothers, for example?
good points BS.
-attitudes towards sex question - the Japanese birth rate is falling.
-Censoring all that stuff is impossible.
-Yes, I agree, the US statistics can be very bad as well.
