A message to U.S. voters, from the Chosun Ilbo

US election cartoon

U.S. Federal Election Commission official admonishes a voter, saying, “This time, please cast your ballot carefully! Don’t cause a disgrace like the one four years ago.” International observers look on./Chosun Ilbo

Kudos to the Chosun for not only poking a little harmless fun at our proud banana republic, but also running the gamut of political incorrectness in spectacular fashion while they were at it — I mean, shit, you got the huge beaks, body hair, Sambo lips, bone through the nose, and whatever the hell they did with the Chinese guy. I’m a little disappointed they couldn’t work in Barry Manilow or fried chicken in some way, but a superb all-around effort, regardless.

I wonder if the racist stereotypes behind the table are supposed to be international observers? There will be international observers in places like Florida this election, and that is the only reason I could see them placing some kind of crude caricature of an African “witch-doctor”-type there.

You can’t hide prejudice and racism. It shows up real easy, like the Marmot has pointed out. Read the Korean sports papers. They’ll always have a stereo type for white or black foreign atheletes playing in South Korea. That’s why I’m not very sympathetic to people who cry about racism in the US or elsewhere, even though my skin is yellow as they go in East Asia. Cause I understand very well that we would have done the same thing. Don’t get me wrong. I think they should stop cartoonists from doing this.
