OhMy Chinese hegemony!

Chinese hegemony

In case you haven’t seen it yet, OhMyNews has created its very own special section on “Chinese Hegemonism.” In its fifth installment, “Even Zhou Enlai is Denounced as a Traitor: Nationalism, Which has Taken the Place of a Fallen Socialism,” you — the Korean speaker — can learn how young Chinese scholars are condemning the late premier as a traitor who sold off Chinese territory to the North Koreans and other reasons why people like commentor Jing are hundled in their secret lairs, hatching evil plots of Chinese world domination. And even if you don’t read Korean, you can enjoy the pretty fly banner, part of which you see above.

Now, of course, our readers in the Sinosphere might be somewhat nonplussed by OhMy’s attacks on the Middle Kingdom, but as a Yank who has had to put up with more than my fair share of OhMy’s more strident anti-American agitprop for the better part of the last two years, I’ve only one thing to say — now it’s your turn, so suck it up.

They’ve certainly gone all out. Even the normal OhMyNews logo has been inverted into a fascistic Red on Black, positively diabolical! Though I do take umbrage at their usage of what looks like a trio of J-6’s. If you are going to convey a militaristic theme, using 50 year old aircraft isn’t too threatening. A couple of J-10s, J-11s, or Su-30’s would be more themeatically appropriate.

By the way Marmot, I’m really curious in reading these articles, do you happen to know of any decent online English-Korean translation software that is better than babelfish?

No, but I have it on good authority that the pieces will be translated for the International edition.

It’s the “Yellow Peril”! Where is Sax Rohmer when we need him? Or maybe he’s now Roh, Mi-Sux? I’ll bet that Fu Man Chu is behind this fiendish plot to overrun Korea with the Barbarian Jung-gook hordes.

Given that it has woken a lot of people up to what China is capable of, I still think the Goguryeo/Kogury? issue is ultimately a good thing for Korea’s future, since now people will be paying attention.

For most countries, China’s history in Tibet, Tiananmen Square and elsewhere would’ve been enough, so Korea needed special mention.

    Let’s put it this way.

    World press freedom rankings:

167th holding the dead last position - North Korea.

157th holding the not much better and hopeless position - People’s Republic of China.

I’m betting Human Rights rankings are just about similiar too.

North Korea and China - the Bonnie and Clyde couple share the same values. It’s no wonder why they are such a trouble.

Just read Powell said Taiwan is not an independent country. If true I am very disappointed in this change of language from the US. This is even more evidence that no one will care if China takes over part of North Korea.

How is it a change of language? Powell stated that “There is only one China. Taiwan is not independent. It does not enjoy sovereignty as a nation, and that remains our policy, our firm policy.”

This has essentially been the foundation of U.S. China policy since the mid 70’s. Under the administrations of 7 U.S. presidents, both Republican and Democrat, it has remained more or less the same. Nixon started the ball rolling with his pragmatism, Ford didn’t change anything. Carter moved further to distance the U.S. from Taiwan by nulling the mutual defense pact and the watered down Taiwan Relations Act was foisted only by a reluctant congress. Even the more ideologically conservative Reagan did nothing to advance the issue of Taiwan, in fact under his administration, the U.S. repeatedly stalled on selling weapons. Bush senior was even more friendly to mainland China than his predecessor, even despite Tiananmen square, he too was guided by pragmatism when dealing with China. Under Clinton, U.S./Taiwan relations detiorated further with his four noes despite sending a U.S. carrier group near Taiwan to warn Beijing against aggression. Bush junior has merely echoed the sentiments of his predecessors, giving warnings to Beijing about not using force, but ultimately coming out swinging against Taiwanese independence.

Just a side comment on a thing I heard in the radio news yesterday, Austrian Postal office was thinking of issuing a stamp on Dalai Lama commemorating his 70th birthday next year, but as is quite understandable, Austria chose trading relations with China over the stamp (Yahoo news, in German).

I almost can understand Chinese nationalists being angry about the course of the Sino-Korean border. Especially ethnic Manchurians believe that the area around Geumgangsan is the mythical(?) homeland of the Qing-Dynasty (or rather the Aisin-Gioro-Clan).

    World press freedom:

North Korea - don’t matter: They need to digest real food, not news.

China - don’t care. Chinese divided into 1)illiterate or still too poor to buy newspapers 2)stuck on TV soap operas or tacky Taiwanese game shows
3)New Rich who want to get richer(read Chinese Forbes) or go shopping (read Chinese Elle)

USA - Americans don’t know better. Read Yahoo! news today: BBC chief slams `flag-wrapped’ American media.
Cathy Horyn fashion pieces and Michiko Kazutani book reviews are the only stories that matter on NYT

Well, apology is warranted where apology is due. Jing is not a Chinese supremacist and my verbal attack was out of line. I am sorry dumping you in the same camp as the mob of the online Chinese supremecist I run into daily.

This is not to say I agree with your previous arguments, which I still consider a lot more “blah blahing”, but that still was no excuse for my personal paranoia about a particular individiual. Unfortunately, my fears of China’s regional aggressive ambition (not limited to Taiwan) remains unsettled.

Well, it’s from OhMyCrapNews, it MUST be false.

Jing. Yes the US did/does have a one China policy. But it never directly said that Taiwan was not independent. It was always very careful not to say that.
Here is a good quote from the story to mark the difference. “Foreign Minister Mark Chen told lawmakers that Powell used “heavy language” that left “a deep impression” on Taiwan. He also complained Washington didn’t warn Taiwan that Powell would depart from long-standing policy.”

I’m not a diplomat but this change of language would be a big deal to Taiwan and China.

Surprising that the mob of Chinese supremacists haven’t shredded you to bits. They exist in such frightening numbers.

In Russia, apparently, they attack you these days just for the crime of looking foreign and a 10 year-old girl had her throat slit.
