PORTLAND, Maine — A federal judge has accepted the guilty plea of a Korean woman accused of managing a brothel in a Lisbon Falls massage parlor.
Doo Ri Kim, 39, was arrested in June by police and federal immigration agents investigating complaints of a prostitution ring that employed illegal immigrants. Kim and three other women were found at the Asia Acupressure Therapy Center.

According to court records, Kim entered the country illegally in 1998, and lived in Flushing, N.Y. She moved to Lisbon Falls in January 2004.The government charged Kim with collecting money from customers who engaged in sexual acts with three women who were also illegal immigrants from Korea. Kim was accused of regularly traveling by bus to New York to deliver money collected in Maine.
The money quote, however, comes from Kim’s lawyer:
“She’s a very nice girl who came to the U.S. a few years ago and she found herself up here,” defense attorney Neal Stillman said.

Better to stop the drug trade than worry about a few hookers.
In general it’s a lot easier to find heroin and cocaine in the US than hookers, especially in New England cities. Ask anyone from that region what the main problem is and 9 out 10 will say hard drugs. The heroin trade in New Hampshire is out of control.
Has there been any free country (notice the word “free”) in the past that have screened their own citizens before they go abroad - let’s say a somekind of an internal visa system for those who wants to go abroad? Because Korea’s already low reputation is going down the tubes because of its too many travelers who can’t follow the law. How can any Korean have the gull to ask the United States to eliminate the visa system for Koreans when the facts are out there that there are over 100,000 illegal Koreans in the United States? A big chunk of those women are prostitutes.
How about reciprocal America Acupressure Centers here in Seoul staffed by like failed actresses?

When I was stationed in Korea in 1974-1978, I met a 18 year old kijichon girl in a bar in Taegu in November 1974. She was in debt to the madam who ran the establishment. This may sound stupid, but I brought her out of there for $400.00 and told her to go back home and gave her $200.00. 2 months later, I transferred to Waegwan Korea and there she was. She had a “yobo” and seemed happy. They were going to get married and then the marriage broke off. I transferred to Seoul Korea in late 1975 and in late 1976, I ran into the girl again. She came to Seoul to look me up because she was in serious trouble and owed a bunch of money to another madam in Munsan-ni. This time, I had a friend who was a member of the Korean Intelligence Service who was kind enough to take care of the problem and get her out of Munsan. She disappeared and in 1977, married a soldier from another Army post in Uijongbu. They stayed married for 5 years. In 1983, while on a temporary assignment to Waegwan, I spotted her leaving a bar, drunk, with 2 soldiers. She was lugging a 5 year old kid around with her (her daughter from the marriage). After her divorce, she went back to Korea and became a prostitute again. After I retired from the Army in 1991, I went to El Paso Texas as a government contractor in 1995. There, in a bar outside of Fort Bliss, I ran into her again. She was still selling her body to soldiers. She had remarried and divorced again and went back to the only work she knew. Once a prostitute, always a prostitute. The fact is, there are a lot of women who came to this country legally and are involved in illegal activities. There are a lot of Korean women here legally who are prostitutes. Just visit any large military base and see for yourself. Fort Bliss TX, Fort Hood TX and Fort Bragg, NC are 3 excellent places to start.
