Al-Qaeda weapons cache in Itaewon?

Well, if the rumor over at the Oranckay’s is correct, it would constitute very distressing news indeed.

For the sake of all the Pakistani, Iranian or other Muslim workers, the rumor better not be true. I can just imagine what the public backlash will be in this country if this was to happen. The first thing that can happen is that the government will start a massive deportation of Middle East workers. I believe the rumor. Otherwise why would the US military suddenly slap on a 9pm curfew before the Al Qaeda tape was even released??

I would also not be surprised if we find out later that there are even some left wing Kim Jong Il sympathizing radical Koreans who are helping the Al Qaeda (disguised as 3-D workers) to strike at the US military.

Maybe that’s what the Korean government meant, when they said “anti-state activities”?

If, and I say if this rumor is true, then it’s a bad thing. But wouldn’t you think that USFK and the Korean government would have taken stronger measures and/or we would have heard something in the news? Terrorists don’t only kill between 9 P.M. and 5 A.M., do they? Does anyone remember how locked down all bases were right after 9/11? If there was a credible threat, you can bet you’d be seeing the same thing right now on all USFK installations…an elevation of the Force Protection (FPCON) Levels, people restricted to base, access denied to certain personnel etc…I haven’t heard of anything like that being implemented. Then again, here in Korea a weapons cache could mean they found a couple of guns in someone’s apartment.

If foreign terrorists ever did something like that in Korea, Koreans would be pissed off enough to kill middle-eastern looking foreigners by the bushel and kick them all out of Korea.

That made me laugh, but I was thinking it would be more like a garage full of baseball bats.
