Dr. Horace H. Underwood is scum. I studied at Yonsei's GSIS from 1992-1994, and I can say that without a moment's hesitation. In the first place, despite the fact that he was born in Korea during the Japanese occupation, he resided in Korea as an American citizen, on a clergy visa. He obviously grew up attuned to the so-called "White Man's Burden". On March 31st, 1994, I was deported from Korea, and on the following day, I was expelled from Yonsei GSIS, despite the fact that I had completed all of my coursework except for my thesis preparation class, and except for the master's thesis, all with a 3.6 GPA. And why was I deported and expelled? It was a simple act of racism. Dr. Underwood had a friend who was an American Methodist missionary, a man by the name of Jack King, who was living over the hill behind Yonsei. Jack King was an ageing Methodist minister from Indiana, where he had been family minister to my late mother's brother and his family. And Jack King was a closet white-supremacist British-Israelite. Why did they get me expelled? Because they are racist, and because I had never (and have still never) had any girlfriend who was not an East Asian ethnic and national.

I am in no way surprised that Horace H. would have made the frog comment. In fact, he used to spend a great deal of time screaming and yelling at his office staff as if they were recalcitrant slaves.

I am sure Hamel speaks for most people here when he asked for an end to the `debate?€™. You can rage and rant on, all you wish.

I would agree, but the problem is, yen yun, is that you called for an end only at the very end of precisely the kind of rant "most people here" objected to in the first place.

Sigh...

Evil White Poufter:

The Almight is my witness. I am NOT Anon.

1. Ancient Persians killing the Greeks: it wasn't racial-inspired. They are both of the Aryan race.

2. Arabs were great slave traders: A question of supply and demand. There was a demand from US at that time.

2.The Taiping Rebellion. Led by a CHRISTIAN Chinese, and supported by many Chinese.
This devastating rebellion was against the corrupt, foreign Manchu system which, to hang on to their harsh rule, agreed to `unequal treaties?€™ and opium - imposed by British imperialists as a LEGITIMATE trade commodity - that ruined the lives of millions and drained the treasury.
The Taiping would have established clean rule and strong government in China. British and other mercenaries, under British General Gordon, the BUTCHER OF KHARTOUM, helped the Manchus snuff the rebellion out.

THIS WAS THE SIDE THAT KILLED MUCH MORE PEOPLE THAN THE ONE TRYING TO ESTABLISH A NEW CHINA.

3. Gen Tso killed HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS in Xinjiang? Please cite your source.

4. China?€™s wars historically have been fought to secure its borders. There is no record of China having a grand plan to colonise, conquer, enslave and plunder other countries.
The threat had come always from the West (until 20th century Japan). In the 9th century, the fast-expanding Arab Muslim empire spread East, and the Tang Empire had to head it off in Xinjiang which, since, has been a Chinese sphere of influence.
As Tibet long was. Both these regions were hotbeds of British intrigue during their Great Game with Russian/Soviet expansionism.
After 1949, China moved quickly to co-opt these regions into the new state. British-influenced India, independent in 1948 and with Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan in its orbit, would have added Tibet to its belt, if China didn?€™t.

In 1421, the Ming Dynasty?€™s Admiral Zheng He set sail with the greatest fleet the world has known - read Gavin Menzies New York Times bestseller - from China to all the way to Africa.

The Chinese arrived in Malacca almost 100 years before the Portuguese, and exchanged tribute with the sultans. Chinese came to settle, and adopted native ways.
The Portuguese came later to conquer Malacca, followed by Dutch and English.

Several Southeast Asian leaders have gone on record that China has historically not been a threat.

This year, Malaysia and China celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations, and the Malaysian government is hosting the Zheng He conference, to honour the great admiral.

5.Chinese dominate (even oppress) South east Asian countries, and fuel insurgent movements:
Thai Chinese have long assimilated into the society. Chinese have adopted Thai names, such as Shinawatra ( the prime minister), and are loyal to the King. They regard themselves, and are regarded, as Thai.

Malaysia has practised ``affirmative action?€™?€™ policies for its Malay ``natives?€™?€™ for more than 30 years.

Despite discrimination against them in education, housing, finance, and almost every other sector, Chinese continue to prosper in Malaysia because of their enterprise and hard work. Who?€™s oppressing who?

``Malaysia thrives only because of oil and Chinese businessmen,?€™?€™ the saying goes in the region.

The Communist insurgency in Malaysia was officially declared over a long time ago. Even the leader Chin Peng begged to return from exile in Beijing a couple of years ago, but was turned down.

Singapore, which achieved `developed nation?€™ status years ago, has a Chinese majority, but has affirmative action plans for its Malay and Indian minorities.
It doesn?€™t set out to ``oppress?€™?€™ them, but in every country, there is a glass ceiling for everyone.

In Indonesia, southern Thailand and Philippines, the insurgency threats are Muslim-based and Al Qaieda financed.

China's trade with India has rapidly expanded. There is hardly any reason for China to finance any insurgency movements - if any - in India or its orbital state Nepal.

Indonesia suppressed the Chinese for years after the 1966 Suharto coup. After the last anti-Chinese riots a few years ago, people and capital fled the country.
The strapped country is now trying to woo Chinese back, by allowing Chinese language schools, tv shows, Chinese New Year, etc. Is anyone going back?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Senkaku islands:These are known as Diaoyutai (Fishing Terrace) in Chinese, and claimed not only by the mainland government, but the regional Chinese government in Taiwan, and by Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia as well.
The Chinese government has committed itself to a peaceful resolution. Japan however has built a lighthouse, and has sent armed patrols. As has Vietnam.

The bits about Mexico, Africa, the Byzantine empire, etc, have already been rebutted by Anon.

I am sure Hamel speaks for most people here when he asked for an end to the `debate?€™. You can rage and rant on, all you wish.

To me, the historical argument is interesting on its own, but supremely irrelevant in this discussion here. Who cares which race killed more in history? Possibly only those who would paint an entire race as evil or cancerous. What I want to know is how races should get along now. Is any nation or race perfect? Hardly. As I said in another thread, all humans have the capacity for good and evil.

I am much more interested in knowing whether the Sioux Indian model for Korean society is a valid model in 2002 or not. 'Friend' raised the model, I expressed doubts about it, and he defended it.

What do others think?
