Beware the Homerin’ Horde?

YTN ran a story on three intrepid Japanese coaches who are teaching Mongolians the beauty of baseball. One of the guys has been there for about 10 years. The Japanese Baseball Association donated the equipment and uniforms, and yes, there is a Mongolian National Fed. of Baseball. Basically, Mongolian baseball is a work in progress — a Mongolian national squad participated in the 1999 Global Championships and finished 0-6, including a 22-0 drubbing at the hands of the United States (the Homerin’ Horde did manage to score runs against the Kiwis, though). Nevertheless, the three coaches dream of the day when talented Mongolian pitchers and hitters are putting their skills to work in the Japanese and Taiwanese leagues.

And no matter how bad the Mongolians perform in international competition, they can tell themselves at least that they’re not nine games behind the Yankees.
