The U.S. government said North Korea is developing ballistic missile systems designed to carry nuclear warheads and having them tested in Iran, the Associated Press reported, citing an unidentified Bush administration official.
North Korea is providing technological information to Iran, which is testing the missiles, AP cited the official as saying, without saying how the U.S. had determined the tests are being carried out.
AP report here:
WASHINGTON — The United States has determined that North Korea is working on new ballistic missile systems designed to deliver nuclear warheads and that it is testing the technology by proxy in Iran, a Bush administration official said Thursday.
Having agreed to a self-imposed test ban, North Korea is sharing technology information with Iran, which carries out missile tests on North Korea’s behalf, the administration official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The missile program is based on Russian technology and has been conducted with help from Russian scientists ??? help the United States thinks may be continuing, the official said.

Here is my top five “Most Threatening Countries to the Free World” list:
1. Iran
2. North Korea
3. Syria
4. Saudi Arabia
5. Pakistan
Iraq used to be No. 3 on this list, so George Bush had it right when he labeled Iraq, Iran, and NK as the “axis of evil.”
You can easily switch NK and Iran here. I put Iran first because I think Kim Jong Il knows that if he hands over a nuke to a terrorist group it’s goodbye “Workers’ Paradise.” I don’t think the Mullahs realize this. The Mullahs believe in Persian invincibility, sacrifice for Allah, and “Death to America.”
But four of these five countries contain a hornets nest of terrorists and all five are involved in this nefarious weapons trade network that pops up on the radar screen over and over again.
The Saudis and Pakastanis are taking steps to clean up their terrorist nests and weapons programs. This is important. If you’re taking steps, even small steps, and “getting with the program,” the U.S. will lay off, FOR NOW.
Meanwhile, the US is working diplomatically with NK in regards to their weapons program. The EU, namely Britain, France, and Germany, is working diplomatically with Iran in regards to their weapons program. And both are going nowhere.
The Mullahs can make this hard or easy on themselves. It’s up to them. Ah, dangerous times.
Much like in the 1920’s when the Germans got around the Versailles treaty by setting up experimental stations in Soviet Russia to test planes and tanks.
“Iraq used to be No. 3 on this list, so George Bush had it right when he labeled Iraq, Iran, and NK as the ?€œaxis of evil.?€?”
Huh? How was Iraq dangerous again? No weapons of mass destruction, no ties to al qaeda, Colin and Condoleeza saying back in 2000 that it was disarmed and not a threat… ‘Axis of evil’ was a concept whipped up by Bush’s team before the 2002 State of the Union speech to help lay the ground for the invasion of Iraq; old foe Iraq was a natural to add, and North Korea was a last minute addition.

Why no move to stop nuclear-armed Pakistan? Oh.. they’re an ally.
makhno,”No weapons of mass destruction”
How was anyone supposed to know that? Saddam had WMDs and he used WMDs. His son-in-laws confirmed that he had them.
Saddam was an idiot. He dismantled his WMDs, but would not allow anyone to verify it. Now instead of living the high life in one of his palaces, he’ll be swinging from the end of a rope next year. At least Kaddafi learned this lesson. Kim Jong Il and the Mullahs have not.
makhno, “no ties to al qaeda”
This is a war on terrorism, not just Al Qaeda. Saddam harbored Abu Nidal, an organization that has carried out terrorist attacks in 20 different countries, and he funded Hamas, the organization that terrorizes Israel.
makhno, “Why no move to stop nuclear-armed Pakistan? Oh.. they?€™re an ally.”
I wouldn’t call Pakistan an ally, but they’re cooperating. Did you notice the Pakastani attacks on Al Qaeda last week? If Bush get re-elected, he’ll demand that Pakistan disarm their nukes by 2008. If Kerry is elected, who knows what will happen? My guess is that Pakistan would become more emboldened to keep their nukes. Dictatorships all over the world are hoping for a Kerry victory, because they see him as more of a pushover than Bush.
