Nicolas Cage, Alice Kim Wed

by Robert Koehler on July 31, 2004

Yonhap News (Korean) reports that Nicolas Cage and Alice Kim tied the knot Friday in a private ceremony on a northern California farm. This would seem to suggest that earlier Korean Netizen speculation that the 40-year-old Cage and 20-year-old Kim were finished was seriously mistaken.

Another case of Korean netizens and media speculation when they said they broke up. I still wonder how this story made the news. It will be fun to see if the Korean media will report this story. It is a true story and shows the American doing the “right thing, and honoring her” by marrying her. Since this is positive news for western guys I wonder if they will report it. What is it about Western men Korean women love? I hope the best for them.

Oh man… let ‘dem naysayers eat crow. Remember how they blamed Nick for “Poor Alice’s” predicament. How outrageous! Why do Koreans so readily jump to conclusions and blame everyone but themselves? Human nature? Yes, well, to some extent we all do it. But the Korean propensity is something I’ll never understand.

this is not exactly on topic but related; i just read the comments about korean men and how many of you think they’re hostile to you. maybe it’s because they notice you only try to make friends with korean women.

****

mr marmot, won’t you allow me? i’d like to make a few more comments about koguryo if you don’t mind.

‘koguryon was just as much like mongol as it was to modern day korean.’ kimchidog

could you tell me specifically where i can find the info to support your contention? how could koguryon have been just like mongol when the present day language of japan has a grammer identical to modern korean? if nihongo came from koguryo and koguryon was like mongol, then you’re implication is that japanese went through structral changes to the point of making it’s mechanics the mirror image of the mechanics of the korean language. it doesn’t make sense. perhaps you mean vocabulary. if that’s the case, please tell me where i can find the comaparative study of mongol and koguryon words that you yourself have read.

tell me, why is so important for you all to prove that korea’s history isn’t her history? why is it important for you to prove the chinese right? i think it’s just another issue to get back at koreans. another hatchet in your arsenal.

look, koguryo is an integral part of the story of the korean people. it is not an integral part of china’s story. anyway, the koreans will prevail here as they are doing right now. who outside of china and you members of the brigade believe the claim that koguryo was chinese?

btw, notsoslim, i’m still waiting for the of books you’ve read that will support your fantastic claim. your friends list is not what i’m looking for since i’m looking for the specific titles you yourself have perused.

‘?????¼ ?²¨??Œ ?ª??´???¼?²???????.’

free twehnjahng for anyone learning korean who can give a good translation of the above.

Mr. Shin. Actually I have 3-4 good Korean male friends after 6 years of living in Korea. But it was difficult to find a korean man that A) spoke English well enough. This is my fault I should speak better Korean after 6 years B) Was not racist or anti-american, unfortunately 95% of Korean men are like this to some degree. I find the true test of how open they are by asking a “what if” question. What if me and your sister fell in love? Would it be OK if I married her? Obviously if they say no they are racist. Unfortunately 95% of Korean men would say no. How would you answer the question? If you say no that is why western men don’t want to be friends with you. C) someone I just liked and I was someone he just liked. I meet plenty of people in America but I don’t want to be friends with the majority of them. Generally speaking if you went to America and American women were usually very nice and polite to you, interested in you, and laughed at your jokes. While most American men had this negative energy towards you, who would you hang out more with?

?????¼ ?²¨??Œ ?ª??´???¼?²???????

It’s so moving that it makes me want to burst into tears…?

6 The Marmot August 2, 2004 at 6:23 pm

Uh, I’m not sure about 95% of Korean men being anti-American racists. OK, Korea isn’t quite as open as many Western societies appear to be, but given the kind of shock integration with the rest of the world the society has been forced to make over the last 50 years, perhaps this should be expected. Yes, there are issues, but they can be easily blown out of proportion.

Ah Marmot, now you’re starting to sound like an old softie. You pollyana, you.

?????¼ ?²¨??Œ ?ª??´???¼?²???????

(Sarcastic) I feel so sorry for you it hurts.

Where’s my dwenjang? I’d like it in block form please.

sorry mankyongdae but dkap wins the twehnjahng! although you picked up on the sarcasm, dkap’s translation was closer to what i would have translated which would have been:

?????¼ ?²¨??Œ ?ª??´???¼?²??????? = brings tears to my eyes.

have a good day, guys.

10 dkapflzks August 3, 2004 at 1:02 pm

I got the sarcasm… you just didn’t see me rolling my eyes as I typed. I should have written “It?€™s so moving that it makes me want to burst into tears, BEYOOOOOOOTCHHHHH”

Shall I provide my work address for ??œ????°°??? purposes or can you just email me a bowl?

11 Mankyongdae August 3, 2004 at 5:06 pm

I really must point out that dkap’s translation was far more stilted and less colloquial than mine. I know which one I’d rather say in public, even with his “Beyotch” rather incongruously taped to the back end of his translation. It sounds a little to me like “I prithee, Sir, could I trouble you to tell me, WAZZZZZZZUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP!”

I say we send both translations to a panel of disinterested judges to decide. And while they’re at it they can work out the Koguryo problem too. And maybe Dokdo/Takeshima if there’s time.

Contrary to what the news sources say, a good friend of mine here who graduated with and often talks to Alice Kim, said they met in a Korean dance club downtown, not at Alice’s work.

There was an interesting link of astrology which featured a good astrolger who predicts a “irreconciable differences” soon in this marriage of Cage and Kim…
Waht western men find in korean/ asian women – this is mostly based on sexuality. ability to give into this aspect is greater for passive asians than aggressive western women
