Gyeonghyang Shinmun editorial cartoonist Kim Yong-min seems to have his fans up North. This cartoon below from May 17 on the Great Shinchon Stabbing Incident made North Korea’s Korea Central TV, along with the friendly advice, “Don’t send the South Korean army to far away Iraq, but turn their rifles around and have them throw out the U.S. imperial invasion troops that get drunk and cause disturbances in the downtown areas with deadly weapons.” Of course, the North Koreans didn’t have to deviate from the original intention of the cartoon, which reads “Zaytun Unit (the Korean troops to be sent to Iraq) — is there a need to send them so far away?”
Well, that should silence those who complain that intra-Korean cultural exchanges were going only one way.
