1965 Korea, serial killings and Esa Tikkanen

It goes without saying that if you’re not reading Antti’s blog on a regular basis, you’re missing a lot. I just want to point out a couple of recent posts of distinction — check out his collection of photos of everyday life in Korea from the 1960s and 1970s and his thoughts on the Yoo Young-chul serial killing.

Antti also broke news (a while ago, albeit) that Esa Tikkanen — perhaps second only to fellow ex-Ranger Bernie Nicholls and former Cap Dale Hunter on my list of least favorite hockey players — would be coming to Korea to serve as coach (and possibly player-coach) of Halla Winia.

Seems that not only English teachers have differences in opinion with their Korean employers about their contract:
Tikkanen thought he was going to be the coach, but Halla was going to hire him as a player. “There’s no way I go there as a player”, is the quote I saw somewhere. “The contract states clearly that it is about coaching.”

I’m not sure either if Tikkanen going there is good for Korean hockey.
