Relative of High-Ranking N. Korean Official Seeks Refuge in German Library

Four North Korean defectors — three women and a man — have sought refuge in the German School in Beijing. Another women, however, was stopped by Chinese police as she tried to get into the school. What’s interesting, however, is that someone familiar with the North Korean defector issue (an NGO, probably) said that one of the women is reportedly the daughter-in-law of the niece of an extremely high-ranking North Korean official. The defectors are demanding passage to South Korea.

This is not the first time defectors have sought refuge at the German School, of course — 15 broke into the place in Sept. 2002, eight in February of this year, and seven on June 1.
