On my way to work today, couldn’t help but notice as I passed by a small but noisy protest going on in front of the Seoul Press Center. OK, I thought — had to be pissed off pro-impeachment demonstrators, or perhaps — given the venue — individuals either praising or condemning the Uri Party’s “media reform” initiatives. Reading the protest signs, however, it would seem the gathering was to protest the sale of Japanese-made Mild Seven’s in the Press Center’s cigarette vending machines.
Well, at least the weather was nice for a protest.
Oh, and it seems the Red Guards Nosamo took the opportunity to string up yellow balloons all along Sejong-no in support of Roh.
Is that even legal?

Can you believe I was smoking a Mild Seven as I read your post? I didn’t know they sold that brand in Korea. They’re pretty good. But I do think Korean cigarettes are pretty decent, too. I liked “This” among others.
I always had to congratualte Korean protesters for finding new and ever more insignificant things to demonstrate against.
Never smoked a Hanmaum, but did try the “Pyongyang” brand, which was much like “Pyongyang” soju — really rough and guaranteed to take time off your life. Had an odd sweet taste to them…

Yuck! I no longer smoke, but I never liked South Korean cigarettes when I did. I did discover a North Korean brand that was sold in the South– a joint venture between KT&G, the South’s ste-run tobacco co. and Ryongsong, the North’s tobacco co. They were called Hanmaum and they tasted a lot like a Dunhill Light or a Parliament.
Alas, smoking’s bad mmmkay. I quit a two pack a day habit two years ago tomorrow.
That’s pretty funny though– protesting a vending machine…
Funny how US Koreans overwhelmingly drive Hondas and Toyotas. There are some odd balls, though, who buy Korean cars.
