Need more proof that — talk of economic reforms notwithstanding — Kim Jong-il’s still off in Never-Never Land? How about this:
North Korean leader Kim Jong Il is planning to build a high-tech industrial complex like Silicon Valley at Mt. Geumgang, Hyundai Asan president Kim Yoon-kyu said Tuesday.
“What Kim Jong Il wants is to construct Mt. Geumgang Valley, which is similar to that of the Silicon Valley. The South-North Korean Economic Cooperation Agreement signed in August of 2000 also contains this plan,” Kim said during his speech at the 1st Teheran Valley Forum hosted by the Korea Industrial Technology Foundation. Kim added that South and North Korea must make haste with technological exchange.
Kim said Hyundai is promoting the construction of high-tech training schools and technology development centers in Gyeseong. He said, “North Korea has placed business promotion in our hands, and because the people in Gyeseong are looking forward to this project, the construction of the industrial complex will be a success.”
I don’t know who’s more insane — KJI for believing that he can build a high-tech center in an extremely isolated part of a starving nation that cannot produce even basic consumer goods, or Hyundai’s Kim for suggesting that advanced technology be transfered to a nation with which this one is still technically at war.
The bad joke that is inter-Korean cooperation continues.

Maybe some GPS-data-chips and mainboards for Dear Leader’s missiles, as an extra a Lonely Planet map of Seoul and Tokyo? Or really cool cutting-edge surveillance equipment? How about high-tech jamming stations against “degenerated imperialistic propaganda of the Southern puppet regime”? As I’ve said elsewhere, sometimes some of my countrymen are literally INSANE.
Not only are some of your countrymen crazy, SS but are horrors in their own right. So now they want to start building at Kumgangsan!!? After they fuck that up, what next!? Such cultural degenerates!!
