Two interesting graphs

Two interesting graphs from the Hankyoreh:

This is how the general election winners break down by age:

reps_by_age.jpg

8 percent are in their 30s, 35 percent are in their 40s, 41 percent are in their 50s and 16 percent are over 60.

This is how they break down by term:

A whopping 63 percent are first-termers, while 17.3 percent are two-termers, 14 percent are in for the third terms and 9 percent are enjoying a fourth term. 2.7 percent must be doing something right, because they’ve just been elected to their fifth or more term. Of the recently elected Uri Party lawmakers, 71.7 percent (109 lawmakers) are first-termers. 50.4 percent (61 lawmakers) of the GNP’s victors are also first-termers.

It might also interest you to know that 39 members (13 percent) of the 17th National Assembly will be women. That more than twice the number who were in the previous Assembly (16, or 6 percent). The female lawmakers include the GNP lawmaker Kim Hee-jeong out of Pusan, who also became the youngest lawmaker ever at 33.

It shocked me when I first found out that every seat in parliament was open this election. That means in theory you could have 299 new representatives, however unlikely that is, 188 is still quite a drastic change.

Does anyone know if they have ever considered staggering the parliamentary elections to keep things a little more stable?
