NYT reviews ‘Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter . . . and Spring’

Things must be looking up for director Kim Ki-duk — his film “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter . . . and Spring” gotta a pretty rave review from the NYT.

I guess I gotta rent the DVD now.

Seems it’s really been a breakthrough movie for Kim Ki-duk - the praise has been pretty unanimous all over, “the movie event of the year” here for example. I still don’t like how he looks at the young woman who comes to the temple for cure, but one cannot be but stunned in front of the cinematic (is there such a word) power of the film.
In one of the final scenes (this shouldn’t be a spoiler) the sound of Jeongseon Arirang sung by Kim Yeong-im and the images of the monk struggling up the mountain just gave me goosebumps (and a lump in my throat - it must’ve been the beauty and the power of Kim’s singing).

I watched this movie just a few days ago..
    And I really enjoyed it.
I agree to Antti’s opinion about the way of his looking at women. I am wondering that Kim Ki-duk has a crooked mind about women. In spite of that, he is a very excellent movie director. Regardless of the story, I think that you can enjoy the beautiful scenes of the korean 4-seasons. In my case, after the ending credit finished, I really wanted to go to the location where the film had been made.

This movie is one of the deepest I’ve ever seen. It was very moving and shot very nicely. I even thought the music was well done; very tasteful.
