I shit you not — it’s in the KCNA!
Pyongyang, March 18 (KCNA) — Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly, yesterday sent a message of greetings to Mary Mcaleese, President of Ireland, on the occasion of its national day. The message said that in December last year the diplomatic relations between the two countries were established, opening a new prospect for developing relations between the two countries comprehensively.
It sincerely wished the president good health and happiness the Irish people progress and prosperity.

Ok in response they should send enough (cheap) beer to the north koreans to supplement thier lack of food in thier daily diet. This would have two effects. One the dark lager would provide just enough nutrition to keep most of the masses from dying off right away. Two once drunk enough they would either be MUCH happier or MUCH angrier, perhaps angry and drunk enough to pick a fight with the NK goverment.
The Dear Leader is a big fan of Western movies and TV shows, I understand.
Perhaps he fancies himself to be in a “Star Trek” time warp, and that he has traveled back to the 1840’s, when Ireland was also governed by a repressive dictatorship that condoned the deliberate starvation of millions.
I hope the Irish government, while belligerently neutral, has enough self-respect and humanitarian feeling to avoid replying to this with similarly meaningless propaganda pablum. Instead it should call for the opening up of the DPRK, the ceasing of nuclear weapons development, and the end of deliberate repression and starvation of the North Korean populace, the brutality of which far surpasses any of the deeds of British crown governance of Ireland of the 1840’s famine.
Ah, for a Korean version of St. Patrick, who could drive the “snakes” out of the Korean peninsula. North Korea go bragh.
