Korean shamanism/Gwangju Uprising in pictures

If you’re interested in Korean shamanism — or even if you’re not — make sure to check out Antti’s “kut” photographs over at Hunjangui karuchim.

UPDATE: He must have just put them up there, but he’s posted some terrific photos from the May 18, 1980 Gwangju Uprising (and links to even more).

I could be wrong, but I was imagining that Antti is a woman.

I often don’t remember how it isn’t obvious that my name is a man’s name - but what does it matter. Oh yes it does, English speakers need to choose between he and she. (Making mistakes with he and she is one common point I have with many Koreans.)

I will never find out where, but I thought I remembered him saying something about his (or as I thought, her) married name. Hence my incorrect assumption.

    Many apologies.

Man, I’m all for filial observances, but them mudangs freak me out! Antti you are taking me back to the exact moment when I was 6 years old scared shitless just because I saw a mudang dressed in all-red walking towards my way on my way home from school.
