Just got this e-mail today — usually, I wouldn’t print something like this, but I’m in a bit of a silly mood today, so I beg your forgiveness. Besides, whoever it was took the time to drop me a line, so I might as grant him or her a brief audience for his or her views:
shhessh another white guy teaching in korea
Roll eyes another white guy in korea
Let me guess u like asian women and just SOOO happen to marry a korean girl. go figure on that.
BTW zen buddhism is NOT A religion..sheeesh white guys and their knowledge of asians.

Jeez… I almost feel bad having to tell the poor guy that my wife isn’t Korean. Yeah, I know, all you guys look the same, but you would have thought her name (as is clearly written on her photos) was a dead give-away. But hey, I guess white guys aren’t the only ones deficient in their knowledge of Asians (whatever the hell that means).

Roll eyes - another bitter kyopo male bigot
Let me guess, women of all races won’t give you the time of day
you looked around this blog, and sneer about the marmot’s knowledge of asia? THIS BLOG? over some triviality about whether religion needs a god, or can just be defined as a life philosophy?
you should be ashamed of yourself, both for your racism and idiocy, livercp
Jeez, i only got a 7/20 in that test.
7/18 i mean
7/18? Don’t feel so bad — my wife scored 5/18, and she could have sworn 2 or 3 of them were Mongolian.
Myself and my wife (korean) did that test about a year ago. I got a 5 and she got a 6.
heh. i didn’t check how many i got right–i only saw the “very bad: obviously you can’t tell the difference.”
zen buddhism is not a religion. hum. all those bosalnims (myself included) bowing like mad at temple coulda fooled me. and those prayers to kwan seum bosal. ah, well.
Despite my many years of Asian interest, an Asian Studies Minor, and a long time spent in the mysterious Orient… I only got a 7.
I’m now a bitter mi gook nome.
Am I the only one who thinks that test is screwy.
The impication being not that all Asians look the same, but all the ones from their respective countries should?
you could always be like Sen. Kerry and transmogrify yourself into a black man.
12/20
I have been told over and over that only white people can be racist….
No one does well on that test, Asian or not. It’s possible to get all of the Coreans correct though. Just say everyone is Corean.
No, lunachick, the implication is that in many cases (especially the “tricky” ones chosen for this test) you really cannot tell where an Asian has come from geographically. Sometimes you can tell, but this test deliberately chooses persons with features that look like other ethnicities to fool the ones who recognize the more common Asian features.
hey e-mail from a piece of crap, amazing.
Man… its all these comments made me second guess too much. If I had gone with my first guess each time I would have gotten 8 or 9. Instead I got 6/18. My roommate got 7. (We’re both white)
I got 9 out of 18 and a “you did OK” (pats self on back). There were a couple I would have called “Filipino” if that had been an option because it sure looked as though a couple of them had Caucasian ancestry somewhere. One of them was Japanese - wonder if she could have been part Ainu?
lunachick,
did you even take the test? china has a very diverse population and more than likely threw a lot of people off in their answers.
“BTW zen buddhism is NOT A religion.”
Fuck!
I think I almost hyperventilated trying to find that god damn test. Who knew it would have been at the top. Doiiiii!!!! Of course I was so excited because here was my moment to shine. Unfortunately an 8 for me.
I think I will write a complaint letter to the site saying that their standardized format is culturally biased.
Word to the livid: Don’t hate. Participate.
I have no idea what that last thing means. Just heard it from a goofy Korean and thought it was worth to put it on here.
As far as I know, the late founder of Hyundai Group, Chung Ju-Yung, told some non-Korean reporters “Confucianism” would be his “religion”. This is IMHO a debatable maintain. Maybe Marmot can soothe the angry Korean soul, when he changes the Japanese term “zen” into Chinese “ch?쨈an” or Korean “son” before Buddhism (though “zen” is the worldwide known term), or the best way would be to worry about nothing and ignore the ignorable.
Correction of,
“Maybe Marmot can soothe THIS angry Korean soul…” and
“…NOT to worry about nothing and…”
Aigoo, I?쨈m pitching up the numbers of Marmto?쨈s comment section int orbital sphere due to my post-carelessness. Another deep bow of remore to the commander-in-chief of this place.
I got 10.
But then I was just clicking by instinct without looking.
Cheers!
