North Korea has its eye on John Kerry:
The North Korean news media have recently shown interest in Sen. John Kerry, the leading presidential candidate of the U.S. Democratic Party, especially his campaign speeches critical of American President George W. Bush.
The North has mainly carried the senator’s remarks against Bush’s policies toward North Korea and Iraq, without attaching any comment.
Jeez, this after yesterday’s Chosun Ilbo cartoon (translated into English by Mike at SEB).
You know, there was a time when this could have been interpreted as North Korean support for Bush. After all, before Kim Dae-jung actually managed to get himself elected president in 1997, the North Koreans and the South Korean Grand National Party (and its predecessors) used to collaborate from time to time on red-baiting the long-time dissident — I direct you to the “North Wind” scandal. This was, of course, before the North Koreans discovered that milking hapless South Korean leftists was a much more lucrative racket than taking occasional payoffs from corrupt rightists.
I doubt that’s the case this time around, however.

First Iran, now North Korea. I wonder who’s going to come forward to complete the trifecta. Syria? Cuba? France?
Well, check out Allah showing Kim Jong-Il with a campaign button:

Heh.
Today’s Hankyoreh has a very perceptive take on this:
The emergence of Kerry, however, must not become reason to delay progress in the six-way talks. North Korea, to begin with, has to be more serious about negotiations. As far as the North is concerned, resolving the nuclear issue should be of the greatest priority, regardless of who is going to win the U.S. presidential election. It will have the least troubles later if it settles the matter with a Republican administration. One major reason for the essential scrapping of the 1994 Geneva Agreement arrived at with the Clinton Administration was the fact that Republican hard-liners didn’t like it.
Hey, Marmot. Who cares whether ?쨔??????쩌 is interested in Kerry’s being a democratic candidate in America? I know why Chosun, a partisan newspaper, published that kind of garbage cartoon. That strategy worked during the military regime. Not any more. It is true that Democrats party will deal with this issue differently from what Bush has done. But I don’t think it influences American Politics. Zero factor. This election needs to be framed in terms of “Bush’s arrogant forien polcy, failure in economy, and his representativeness of “ultra fascists and extremists.” Read my Lips. He will be deletedin 2004.
Gator,
typical response from the likes of your kind. US economy has started to turn around and is averaging 4% growth, something the Germans and French can only dream of. Terrorists are on the run and their state sponsers like Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, & Pakistan are finding that they better behave or face the consequences.
Wipe the rabid spittle off your face and get real. I highly doubt if voters here will allow the likes of you to turn this country over to a man that changes his mind every other day. A man who wants to turn over the security of US over to the UN, you know the organization with the lousy record of providing security for no one.
the jobs numbers come out this week and i’m being told to expect really good news.
“…the likes of your kind.”
SOunds like the type of language a German would use against a Jew back in the 40’s… As if Gator is some sort of sub-humanoid.
Someone has rabid spittle all over his face… and it ain’t Gator…
Brian
Disagree with Gator’s politics, but he certainly ain’t the rabid spittle kind — read his blog.
Sorry Marmot. It’s my response to Harold.
I fully understand why you used such an extreme word.
I’m not upset at all. I ignore you.
But I tell you what your beliefs like mine are determined by where we’ve lived, who we’ve met, what we’ve learned from our family and school system, and….guess what? …from your media consumption patterns. So guess what again? When I heard your “rabid spittle,” it immediately reminded me of Rush Limbaugh’s bad impact on such a naive, susceptible and gullible person like you. I could attribute your illogical flaming to listening to Rush-like biased hate political radio show or Fox News, unless you have special interests or gains in Republican’s getting power.
I don’t blame if somebody has their reasonable logics to support their belief system or if they could counterargue others’ beliefs with reasonable thoughts. But I hate one if their jobs are just yelling and calling a name like Rush Limbaugh. I just think he is insane and he needs to be sent to a mental hospital.
You are always welcomed to show your hatred to my weblog. gatorlog.com
One more thing. Those who eagerly expected an optimistic report on the “job numbers” must have heard a disappoiinting news on bush’s adding just 21,000 jobs. But anyway, it’s ridiculous to count such a meaningless numbers. It’s not important whether it is 21,000 or even it is more than that. The fact is that most Americans admit that bush has failed in economy. Ask college graduates their frustration in job hunting. Ask Ohio workers who have been laid off during bush’s term of their anger. soaring gas price…soring tuition, but more tax benefit for the rich.
Isn’t the ’source’ of this “North Korea Endorses Bush” story the Republican National Committee? How pathetic. But even if it wasn’t, it just doesn’t add up. At least I don’t think it does.
And - keep this in mind. If North Korea really was ‘endorsing’ Kerry, it would probably really mean that they ‘wanted’ Bush. Think about it.
Not plausible, you say? Well, the Bush administration talks up a storm on North Korea, but what have they actually done so far to stop the killing there? I think it’s really depressing how little.
At the very least they could be dropping radios and food into the starving country in ‘gratitude’ for their acumen in helping rescuing the theatre missile defense program!
Now that would confound Kim Jong Il’s propaganda team. They certainly would have a lot of explaining to do as they tried to take the food away from the starving babies. I don’t think they would have an answer for it.
What a missed opportunity.
*sigh*
Bah, you’ve lost it, Chris. Try reading the original Financial Times article, or any of the other sources.

It seems that North Korea is taking an increased interest in electoral politics these days: Not in North Korea, of course, but in South Korea and the United States. I came across this (doctored) pic of Kim Jong-il at Allah’s
