DPRK meets with IAEA, ‘Agrees’ to Resumed Inspections

In a report that I’m sure caused President Roh to blow his load, Kyodo News said that a North Korean official met with IAEA officials in Vienna and “unofficially” agreed to renewed inspections of Yongbyon. Undoubtedly the first step in North Korea’s eventual complete dismantling of its nuclear facilities, if you ask me.

Anyway, the North Koreans didn’t mention anything about inspections of its highly enriched uranium (HEU) program, but then again, there wasn’t any need to because the North doesn’t have any HEU programs.

We know this because the North Koreans said so.

I went to the bank the other day, and I promised if they’d give me $100,000, I’d pay them back at a 45% interest rate within 5 years.

    They didn’t go for it……

Whether the Norks are serious about anything is an open question but it does seem that the pressure applied to them is having the desired effect. It must have been a terrible winter up there and this is a major concession for them. I also congratualte the Bush administration for having the balls to deal with them in the only manner Koreans understand, strength.

I would support a limited return to the 1994 Framework and no more. The Norks have to learn that it cannot gain from creating crisis after crisis.

It’s the dismantling of the DPRK that is they key to solving this crisis. Why didn’t anyone think of THAT?

Just like the New York Times, if the North Koreans say so, it must be true.
