Stick a fork in the ‘comfort women’ nudes — they’re done

Lee Seung-yeon, or at least her pimp producer, apologized for the mess she’s caused and the feelings she’s hurt, and said that the “comfort women” nude video project has been suspended:

In connection with the ruckus caused by her “comfort women-themed nude” video and photos, actress Lee Seung-yeon has officially apologized and announced a suspension of her nude video project.

Lee and Netian Entertainment, the producer of her video and photo collection, held a press conference 10:00 a.m. Monday in front of Netian’s corporate headquarters in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and said, “It was a project that started with good intentions, but since we rushed things in the production process, we could not convey those original intentions, and for that, we sincerely apologize. We are suspending completely the ‘comfort women’ video project.”

How did Pak Ji-woo, head of Netian Entertainment, apologize, you might ask? By shavin’ his noggin’, that’s how:

As the man with the final responsibility for the project, Pak had his head shaved following the press conference as a way of officially apologizing.

Now, it should be pointed out that Lee herself did not attend the press conference (as pointed out by the Oranckay), which is unfortunate, because if someone should have had her head shaved, it’s her.

The Oranckay, BTW, sent me a whole bunch of wacky stuff in connection with this, which I hope to blog when it’s a little less busy around the office.

Due to inflationary abuse, the shaving of the head as a form of protest, show of total committment or as an acknowledgement of guilt has lost its meaning or usefulness. Just like hunger strikes, petitions to the king (”imperial” president) or public suicide.

Pak Ji-Woo and Lee Seung-Yeon, hm, in the good old days of the Yi-Dynasty there was another special treatment for disgraceful people like them: public beatings… with a big bamboo stick, performed by a master of pain.

It’s not enough for the people involved to publicly apologize and let the issue rest. They have to go out and shave their heads in one last, desperate attempt at cheap publicity. As if a shaved head can somehow make up for the pain this stunt ha caused.
