Wow. Tell me if I’m wrong, but the conclusion I’m drawing is that Koreans hate Japanese far more than they resent the Russians.
I think we should start a petittion for the commemoration of the Taft-Katsura “treaty”.
If the Koreans have gotten over the Russians fighting a war with the Japanese over control of Korea and Manchuria, surely they can bury their understanding of that treaty…..
Koreans seem not to have put two and two together and come up with they’d have probably become a Russian colony had the Russkies won the Russo-Japanese War.
To their credit, one Korean civic group did protest. The absence of more widespread outrage just shows that people generally don’t respond much to “what-if” scenarios. The Russians didn’t colonize Korea, so Koreans don’t much care about the issue.
