The Korean War makes the Silver Screen

taekukgi_movieAs the Oriental Redneck mentions on his blog, Kang Je-hyu’s latest film Taekukgi will be released on Feb. 5, and everything I’ve seen about the film, which tells the tale of two brothers fighting on opposite sides during the Korean War, leads me to believe that it will seriously kick-ass. By all means, take a look at the movie’s official website — it’s amazing, and well worth visiting even if you can’t read Korean. The amount of money that got pumped into the film probably surpasses South Korea’s defense budget of 1951, and from watching the trailer and the production films, it seems like money well spent. I expect the bullshit factor to be incredibly high, and I have no idea how the ROK’s allies in that struggle will be portrayed (or if they’re portrayed at all), but then again, Saving Private Ryan was pretty much straight bullshit from start to finish, but I enjoyed sitting through it nevertheless.

BTW, you can read an English write-up on the film, courtesy the Chosun Ilbo, here.

Damn that looks like a hot movie. Swiri is just about my favorite Korean film. I am so looking forward to this.
