Here's my guideline for whether or not I've "been" somewhere:

Did I piss there?

So, because I've driven through Kazakstan a number of times but never stopped to leave my scent, I can't justify saying I've been there.

So, if you relieved yourself in the UK, you were there.

I saw this map thingy on the blog called Cobb a while back.

My list:

France (lived briefly in Nice, spent time in Nantes/Carquefou, have been to Paris, Verdun, Chartres, Strasbourg, Cherbourg, etc.)
Switzerland (lived in Fribourg/Freiburg for a year with a Swiss host family; it changed my French accent into something more Germanic)
Luxembourg (day trip)
Belgium (day trip-- didn't get to hear "octante")
Denmark (passing through)
Holland (passing through)
Sweden (Stockholm was amazing)
Germany (Berlin Wall, 9 days after it started to come down in 1989, baby-- saw the people with the sledgehammers; also visited Munich & Heidelberg)
Austria (passing through)
Italy (Rome... not the greatest experience)
Monaco (HA! a brief walk through it while living in Nice!)
South Korea (go figger)
Japan (Fukuoka-- where else for visa-jumpers)
Canada
England

Et voilà.

And when you plot all that on the map, you see it's not very damn much. Heh.

Strangely, I've never been to Spain.

And I'd love to visit Iceland.
