Think the Serengeti

The Lunar New Year migration has begun.

Living, as I do, in the jibang, I thank God I every holiday season that I don’t have to deal with this.

best time to be a tourist is during one of the two big holidays!! the streets of Seoul are empty enough to actually enjoy walking around…

Like dude, being in the jibang, you do have to deal with all that. Where you you think all those people are going, anyway? Vacation in Bali? Brace yourself, the population in Gwangju is about to double for the next few days.

Seoul is at its best on Seol and Chuseok.

    Yowza,

I don’t take to crowds that well neither.

Although you guys should see the Garment District here in LA during Christmas. And I doubt that place there is as dirty as the district. Sheesh…

Well, Mrs Kimchipig, the Piglets and myself are staying put for the next five days. Put in plenty of supplies, beer and DVDs for the holiday. Nobody is going to see us on the road this week for sure!

Hooray to Mr Kimchipig: we think along the same lines!
Of course, since my inlaws, while very jibangish by birth, live 5 minutes from our place, I will indulge in a trek to their place and gorge on good food…
Let the ch’onnom deal with the nouveaux riches for 5 days…

Oranckay — although I’ll be staying here in Kwangju — for the next four days, the largest city in Korea — this holiday season, you have to be impressed by the roads up to Seoul. Not a friggin’ car on them, and meanwhile, on the otherside of the road, traffic is at a standstill from Seoul to Taejeon. It’s really something to behold.

Isn’t the same drive to get home for the holidays seen during the Thanksgiving - Christmas timeframe in the states? I’d like to see the stats on movement. I remember many Christmases spent in traffic jams on Highways 41 and 32 from Great Lakes Naval Traning Center (where my Dad was stationed) to Antigo and Birnamwood WI…

As our favorite Korea Blogger (and part-time Chosun Ilbo Translator) the Marmot reports, it’s a jungle out there. Since my GI Wife is from Suncheon, and I’m stationed in Seoul, we are definately NOT jibang….Far from it. And unlike the
